dMZX Forums: Sprite Catcher is nearly unplayable -> Archived MegaZeux Bugs -> Tracker

The game Sprite Catcher by Nanobot is almost unplayable in all releases starting from 2.70 up. The player sprite (63) will scroll to the left off the screen, breaking the game. Rarely, this won't happen if the game spawns another sprite immediately.

The game uses a weird hack where it expects setting SPR_NUM to -1 to work. This was changed from a signed char to an unsigned char in MZX 2.69c but for whatever reason the change doesn't seem to have broken it until MZX 2.70. Since &SPR_NUM& displays -1 the source might just be wrong for that version.

I don't know if this one is really worth fixing, but it's a thing that exists.

Note: the breakage in Hackers Can Turn Your Computer into a Bomb! may be related from a quick glance at the game's code but honestly I have no clue what the issue is in this game, and the fix for Sprite Catcher doesn't fix it (or if it does, only partially). This one ought to be looked into more too.

EDIT: Hackers Can Turn Your Computer into a Bomb! has an unrelated issue caused by misuse of sprites that only ever worked due to MZX not clearing sprite vars between games.
