Yes indeed that is a good idea. Exo I demand you make a couple of copies, and send them to at least one other person if you haven't already, it's for your own good :>

I back it all up on my other computer (networked), should be enough for now.

Sorry, but I changed it so that if you try that it sets the value to 1337. Similarly if you use board_scan it'll return "Please use copy block. ;)"

Why don't you make it so that it actually returns a value between -2147483648 and 2147483647. Replace whatever silly random number generator Greg made with rand().

It's not silly, it's very typical. The reason why it happens is because a value is taken between 0 and (absolute difference + 1), and if you use the full range it will overflow and change to 0, which will cause a divide error upon mod. However I can of course take out the mod altogether for a full range like that.

Okay, I've been working on the Robotic interpreter. Right now there are still some things I know are wrong with it, and probably a myriad of bugs remaining that I don't know about, but its come a long way. Like most of the code in the build, it barely resembles the original source. And attached is the obligatory screenshot to shut Zaphod up... ;)

Okay, just a note... the port will not directly allow loading of password protected games, but today I added a dialogue that asks if you would like to decrypt it, which will save a decrypted version then load that. I also fixed getpw so it actually works (and I used that source for the decryption).

Add an option to automatically decrypt the file, overwriting the file with a decrypted one so all the old password-protected games can be used transparently without the hassle.

.. by that I mean add the option eventually. I'd rather see the port first =p

You have to read my post carefully to see this, but I DID do that. Just that it asks you if you want to decrypt it, so it isn't literally transparent, but that's not exactly an issue.

Well, seeing as how I've been developing on Win98 I'd say that it is, but then again, with you saying it had better be maybe I can find a way to make it not work ;)

It's funny when people make demands of a free project being developed by someone else. If you manage to get it to mysteriously fail on Dosnerd's computer, no-one will think any less of you.

All of the commands are finally implemented, so I can move on (there are probably still bugs, but I've been wiping that out steadily). I'm going to work on builtin counters so I can get back most of the features from the last several versions, then move on to game saving, music, and finally, the editor.

Keep expecting updates...

Trying to set the record for porting a modest-sized DOS program? ;)

I can't wait for the port. DosBox is way too slow to play the dos version on my computer.

Okay.. mouse is implemented, both in the MZX GUI parts and for counters in-game. Almost all of the builtin counters are in; the only ones missing are bimesg (I'm probably doing a somewhat new implementation, I guess), all load_* and save_* counters, and mod_order. Bimesg will be in when I feel like putting it in, and the rest will be added when I have their requisite internal modules complete.

Somewhat to my surprise, SDL was returning the XT (scancode set 1) scancode in its key events (under the scancode field), which is the same as MZX uses. However, this is most likely highly machine dependant, and furthermore there were some discrepencies between it and MZX due to how they handle extended (larger than one byte) codes. So, I wrote a converter that would correctly convert between SDL's native keycodes and the kind MZX uses. Now key*/key_code/key_release work as they should. key_pressed/key should also be okay because SDL's keycodes map ASCII where possible, however, the keys that previously were filtered out (such as shift, space, etc) now return new codes. I doubt this will cause compatability issues; in fact, it should prove beneficial.. right?

Also fullscreen is working; you can press alt + enter to toggle between fullscreen and windowed. Fullscreen might not give the exact resolution on all computers. The display will however be centered... Right now there's no config file at all (scrapped), but when I reimplement one it will be in plain-text and easily editable, and have several new options. There will most likely be no config screen, so you'll have to edit it with a text editor. The default options should suffice for most people...

So, there's still quite a bit left to go... I need to implement game saving, savegame loading (should mostly be there already), clean up/separate some loading sections (so swap world will work), implement mods, sams, and PC speaker emulation (some of this will be really tricky, especially the mod sam command), convert/refurbish the editor, and redo the robot editor. And of course bug fix. I know of a few bugs still in Bernard the Bard, although it took me quite a while to find them. I won't do any more serious testing until I have game saving, for obvious reasons.
