IGE

This is a chinese company which hires people to play on common MMORPG servers to make Gil / Credits / Gold / whatever and sell it for real money.

And another link with people talking about it.

Um... How do they protect themselves from people who know how to exploit the game engine to get limitless wealth? I mean I created a door in the sims that would grant you $1 million Everytime an NPC entered. It was funny to let the burglar get away with $5000 couch, Hell I earned a million to watch him! FUN FUN! Or cheat codes for that matter, to me, this seems like a horrible business, I mean unless it's a peer to peer thing...

Person1: Hey I have a billion simoleans!
Person2: I'll give you $200 for them!
Person1: cool here you go.
* Person2 has quit!
Person1: Hey Me again, I just made... ANOTHER billion simoleans! Anyone interested?

Heh, that could be fun, I could quit my job, and from then on I'd be a professional sim invitor and live off the proceeds of silly talking people walking through my magic money door! Hooray internet!

It would seemingly be so easy to screw someone over royally with this! But then I guess so long as they get what they asked you're not screwing them... it's just easy money... Something seems WRONG about it though?

Are you SURE they give you REAL money? Or is the money converted into OTHER games currancy through exchange rates?

Well, I'd bet there's a cap in place on how much you can make. As for any other provisions against cheating, well, search me.

I've heard about another MMORPG like this. The thing is that you had to buy the money in the first place. Gotta have money to make money, you know? There are all kinds of problems with that sort of system, unfortunately.

There is a cap for the ammount of currency from some games you can sell, but games like Second Life, make it a point that you will be able to convert the games currency into REAL LIFE CASH when it's fully released. They've even claimed (On a G4tv, formerly techtv, show) that the conversion of SL money to real world money could potentially be a form of income for top players.

It seems to me that a game hacker (The people who create (or find) the cheats advertised) would target this specific aspect of gamming culture to exploit. I mean what would be better than creating an object that would legitamately give you millions of Simulated dollars that you could later convert to real money? It would probably be a very well guarded cheat, I would suspect, so as to make is less detectable. I mean if EVERYONE is pulling in 10 million simulated dollars for conversion every week or so, someone might catch on, but the fact that it IS possible (especially since it's a PC game) should be a little disturbing.

It's a very good idea so long as the system you developed it for is proprietary and it doesn't have a cheat device, or has one that leaves certain area's of the systems memory unobtainable.

The point that the systems these games run on are very open, and to an experienced user are easy to cheat.

Think of what damage this would do to the companies converting the money, I just don't like the execution of this idea.
