[Bramble]

So...this is going to be the art thread for me. Please try to not foul it up a lot by saying pointless things. You can critisize any of the pictures, but it will probably have no affect on how I go about drawing. But it's all cool. Here's the one that I did just a couple of days ago:

edit: thanks lancer, micah, and thanks micah for telling me why you liked them. The seamonster one was actually drawn with blue pen ink, I only sanned it in shades of gray, so the cross-hatching was just essential. I also do this style of shading with pencil as well. Not so much, though. It's simply more fun to add diversity among your different drawings. Like changing the shading from picture to picture.

Wow, I really like these. I love sketchy cross-hatched pictures as it is.
The first one is pretty awesome because it has a rabbit.
The second one just all-out rocks, because it has a seamonster.

am i alone in thinking the sea monster is a bit stiff? if it followed a parabolic arc it would catch a better sense of movement. right now it looks like a straight rod with a mouth hanging off the end.

just a thought.

Well, I thought about it, and it profited me nothing. Just because the picture is already drawn and done with --I know the monster looks a little strange. I recognized that myself. So maybe if I do anything like this again I'll make it look more realistic. Just for ol' zenith =D

See for me, I just look at what's interesting: a monster eating a guy's boat, the guy jumping out, blah blah blah, and then I notice the shading. I don't particularly care whether homer simpson's head is about to fall off or not. Thanks for the suggestion/thought, though. It's nice to get comments on my drawings because I usually don't around my house except for, "Cool!" yaknow? So thanks and shortly I'm going to post another picture.

the ogre guy kind of looks like the arms of his top and the legs of his pants got stitched together and now he's very angry because he can't move very well (in other, non-facetious words- stiff posture.)

scenery-wise it's the best one so far, i especially like the lightning and the shadows on the clouds

sigh...yeah...I also recognized the stiffness. I could prevent it, if I really tried and if I really cared.

Still though, the sea monster was different. The ogre was intended to be stiff and "upright".

Anyone else have anymore comments? perhaps more positive?

Here's this -thing- I drew just now. It really is not directed at anyone in particular; not zenith (hee), and not anyone else. Thought I'd just make it to express what I think about some things in drawing in general. Hopefully it makes a bit of sense:

Liked the first picture a lot.
The seamonster and ogre both have the problem of unnaturally stiff posture. The monster, IMO, should be arched and curving down toward the guy, like it's striking or something, and if you want the ogre to look stiff and uptight, here's a better method:

yeah i'm a jerk about technicalities i guess

like i'm all for stylisation and stuff but i'm a perfectionist for form

i assure you that when i draw something i'm as hard on myself as i am when i criticise anyone else

i try not to be too negative though, that would be mean

on the other hand, you get people who try to pass sloppiness off as stylisation (eg. much of the furry fandom). i like to think i can usually tell the difference.

Yeah it's cool for everyone to have their various likes and dislikes in pictures. Hopefully you don't think I try to get by with a style of sloppiness, though. Whoop, gotta go I'll try and post more.

And another...sure, the hands are too small, the head is too big, maybe zenith can find some other little error =D But it's supposed to be like that. Let me repeat: It's supposed to be like that. Any problems you see I've already seen. I see everything. I know where you pick up your sunday paper every week.
