Starflight MZX its really good, for real, i mean it.

I have been working for some time now on a game inspired by the following games : Starflight, Starcontrol2, and the demo I played for Starfleet command.
*the name "starflight" is temporary.

Basicly the game is a space exploration/tactical combat simulator where you control a starship which currenty has 34 different upgrades, 8 different components 3 different weapon systems, and over 150 counters designated for it alone. I am putting the finishing touches on a fully playable demo that will give you access to 4 starsystems, and 3 "missions" (I use the term losely they are not too difficult) I have removed the Hail screen for the demo because it will not be running for a few weeks atleast, however the game is pretty good with out it

This game features many inovative ideas that I hope will make it succesful, they are as follows: omni directional, auto aiming weapons, both instant hit and delayed (missles). sector damage (4 sectors each with armor and hull points) front and rear rechargable shields, so far 6 different types of enemy ships (only 3 in demo but the others are ready to go) fully navagatible starmap, realy neat ambient hyperspace effects a la starcon 2, ?11 differnet planets, ridculosly complex fighing engine gives you a top view of your ship, you control thrusting, turning, energy management (all systems drain your energy reserves, weapons, shields, engines) the AI for the enemys is pretty striaght foward right now, they only do 4 manuvers based on your possition and bearing. well enough talk about it, I am not ready for hardcore beta testing yet, there is still alot left to do, but I would like to know if any one out there would be interested in trying it out, giving me some opinions and post any thing they would like to see in this game. just leave your Email or AIM SN and I will send out copys starting tomorow night.
I just realized that the game is very complex so I am putting in a through introduction to explain it all.

The game is a *little* quirky right now but I have weeded out al major problems that inhibit game play, you can expect a few graphical probs, some flickers, and stuff not getting erased imidatly but nothing too bad that will stop you from playing.

Yeah, your ship is modeled after the one in SF, The Hail screen is very similar to SF's too, and the plot (which I have written out on napkins from taco bell) Is based around the solar flair thing, the actual combat is much more complex though.

*sigh* well I am about 50% compleat with the info needed to play, the bot for the text is now 4.5k, and I havent even started on the battle screen yet LOL tomorow night It should be done.

Wow, sounds cool. Josh was working on a game like that a couple of years ago(Star Journey) but it never got finished. Its a LOT of work to map out the gaxaly.

..Once you've reached the 500-600 mark, then let's talk about counter use. >=D

But seriously, sounds like a great game. I'm looking forward to seeing the demo...

No, 150 counters for the players ship, then there is the enemy ships, all the cargo valvues and spaces, the hyperspace board eats up a lot too, I expect the game right now uses well over 400, and thats with out the hail screen (another 100 easy)

and I have already maped out the galaxy (20stars)in first sector (40stars in the second) its just if you go to them there are no system boards to teleport you to so nothing happens.

ok, I will be sending out the demo within the hour, to so far Aeon17 , Maverick, & esdemo1. Is there any one else that would like a copy?, oh and I bailed out on the in game intro, it just points out what all the screens are, I am including a text file that has all the controls and info that you need to play, as well as some formula to help you out

Ok Demo compleat, I have trimed it down to a 456k zip so it doesn't take too long to get. if any one else is interested in seeing the game, post so here and I'll send it out.

Ok, new weapon, very short range(4), low damage (2-3) fires every other second, right now its TOO powerful, so I'm gonna slow it down from "wait5" to maybe "wait8" it might be put on the second type of ship (the bigger one) in exchange for one of its Ion cannons.
this baby tore my ship up, I still won the battle but every one of my systems took damage, and let me say, few things are worse than taking sensor hits.

NO way.I was making a game just like that :)  Although I never finished it..and never wil...probably not anyway...well most likey not :)

I loved the old star flight games, you can see a few screenshots and info for the game i was making at http://free.prohosting.com/~sgdmzx/starj.htm.

I really hope you finish this I would love to see a StarFlight MZX get finished.

Wow, the simalaritys are amazing,only I have no real planet exploration, just orbital mining (but this could change). and I foucused more on invigorating combat. but I can see the Starflight in your game, you were a little more  true to the old game, I have not strayed too far though. I would be honored if you would take alook at mine, perhaps rekindle your intrest in yours. (but you will have to give me a chance to clean it up for you.)
In any event, if you still have "Star Journey" I would love to see it.

I still have my old version sitting around somewhere, I'm moving soon..so give me a few days to get it to you. :)

It's fairly old, but it was pretty good I think :)

Hey maybe we can make one of these games together down the road :)

If we took my combat engine, with your planet exploration,  with my cool H-space effects, and your upgrade screen (mine looks crummy right now)... wow. maybe we should consider this...

Well we would definatly have to use your combat engine...seeing as I never started mine ;)

I actually had a more update planet thing than the images show....I had weapons, storms, minerals, displays, and other nifty stuff.

I also had a space station...i don't remember if there was a screenshot of that....actually I hope there wasn;t it was a temp board that looked awful..although it did have some cool slidy doors :)

I also had (or planned) to have artifacts that boosted various ship functions and gave special abilites.  There was also a starmap that showed you how far you could travel..although it was pretty buggy.

There was quite a bit more...we'll have to chat about this sometime.

LOL well I dont think we would want to use mine, half of the board is just me typing about how ugly the board is, and I have no sliding doors :) I'll show you what I've got after I hear from the others that saw it, and clean it up alittle.

I looked through my old starjourney stuff last night, very old by the way ;)  Most of it is well of over a year..and in some cases two ;)

It's all pretty disorganized but I'll send it to you Saturday..hopefully you can figure out what was going on....because even i was confused by some of my old stuff :)

np josh, I'm quite good at figuring that stuff out, I've had to re-learn most of the things I've made several times,

And roSS, I'm just e-mailing them out right now, mind waiting for a few days, I've done several upgrades since the last one I handed out, and fixed some balance issuses (recived two complaints about enemy speed, 1 about the enemy ship w/ twin Ion cannons being too powerful,  and a problem with the shiled generator incorectly consuming energy. all will be fixed easly, and updaiting the help file) , I can E-mail you a new copy  problly on sunday.

BTW, I did play it, even though I forgot about it for a couple of days. Looks very good, I'm impressed. My main issue was the size of the ships, since it was hard to see which way you were going sometimes. Keep it up. :)

yeah It can get tricky, but if I make the ship larger than that then the scale of every thing else falls apart, however, an engine trail or somthing might do the trick...

Demo Update!

Enemy ship speeds have been lowerd from 7 to 5 with the exception of the smallest enemy ship.

The second ship (the bigger one) has undergone several changes from the last time, it has been weakend ?significantly

NEW:
LVL 2 Laser (7-10)
LVL 1 NPG (3)
LVL 1 Ion cannon (3-4)
foward shields :20
Rear shields :15
foward hull ?:25
Left hull ? ? ? ?:35
Right hull ? ? ?:35


I'm not sure if any of you have gotten to the third, significantly larger ship, but if you have, I plan on changing his stats lot, right now he is equiped with
LVL 5 laser (14-20)
LVL 5 Ion cannon (8-11)
LVL 5 NPG (12)
and 3 S-36 missles (36)
well his missle launcher doesnt work, i put in an "end" instead of a "goto loop" so you dont have to worry about it.
however I just got his M launcher to work, and well, this guy is now impossible to beat, so I am changing his wep loadout to look like this:
LVL 4 Laser (11-16)
LVL 2 Ion cannon (4-5)
LVL 3 NPG (7)
and either a 2 shot S-36 (36) missle launcher or a 3 shot S-24 (24) Missle launcher.

also, you can expect to find at least 2 additanal variants of the ships in the game I sent out, hope to have it ready tonight.


also, also, you guys playing already, feel free to send me more ideas to make the game better, also I would like too know indeapth stratagys you have developed as well as how you have been roming aroung H-space

wow man, this game has changed a lot since i last saw it...remember that man? (if anybody rembers me, i was razkat1470 on the old mWorld boards) just saying hi and that stupid kenohki is getting me started back into mzx after my hiatus, and that we'll continue work on our RPG as a team again, making it the best #### mzx RPG ever! wait...second best maybe :). either way, wassup all and if anybody remebers me, hey guys!

ok, I got carryed away, there are 3 ships 2 of which have 3 variants each totaling 7 playable enemy ships. alot of numbers have been changed and I fixed a few minor problems. that shield energy thing is fixed now, and the enemy ships have been slowed down. will be sending it out inabout an hour.
