oh yeah, Josh? I looked onto using bigger characters for the ship, and basicly came up with one so close to yours, that I might as well use the original (again, not too difficult because we both are moddling a ship from the same game). would you mind if I used your "SJ" characters for the ship? Otherwize I will have to use another one I made that is only a little bigger than the current one, and doesn't look quite as good.

oh of course, your already in there for inspiration for every thing I saw in star journey, if it wasnt for you I probably would not be trying to tackle my planetary exploration right now.

oh and the new view screen looks cool so far.

shouldn't you stop releasing demos so when the final version is  released people havn't played it all before and it also leaves the player wanting more

none of the demos extend the plot, so when the final comes out it will all be new, I keep releasing demos for graphical updates and bug fixes and so on. my plan is when the final comes out no one will find the displays too confusing or the game play too complex.

Coupla things....

First, Hentaioverfiend's link is screwed up (move the mouse over it and you'll see why.)

Second, if you bypass that and download the file, it's corrupted. ???

ok, I blame the upgrade. this link worked fine before it, I did it my self, and Downloaded the file, as for it being corrupted I'm not too sure about that, I will have HO redo the link and I'll upload the file again, just to make sure. sorry about that (the link really did work before) any way try it again tonight I'll try to get this straightend out.

Oops, well I tryed to do too many things at once, consequently I seriously messed up the game. It will all be fixed and running with the new stuff, but there will be a delay, might be a few days till this gets straighend out.

Don't you just hate it when this happens?

Just so you know that I am still working, here is the update:

The new view screen looks very nice, its a little easier to understand what is going on, the larger characters are done, I added some warning messages regarding your energy so you can tell what?s going on there a lot better, then I fixed about 20 or so minor bugs.
Here is where my time went, I ran out of robot memory again. Luckily I had only micronised 2 or so of the robots, I did a few more and solved the crisis. 18 boards out of 23 are updated, I am currently applying the upgrades to the last 5 boards now,

I can release another demo with all the new stuff, but I still have not gotten to the planetary exploration. It might be a while for that still, (2 weeks maybe). Any way thanks for your patience.

Can't seem to find the newer thread... oh well, Yes I am still working on this, the last month has been hectic to say the least, but overall a lot of progress has been made since my last post, namely I have elected to divide the .MZX into multiple worlds after some one (Tixus) I think scared me about a .mzx that was too big would go *poof* any who, that took some time but I pretty much have the game set up to span several mzx worlds (which was difficult because the game is totally nonlinear). Right now my biggest challenge left is drawing neat picks of the alien races in the game (not sure why I am having such a problem with this but I am), still a little tough to say, but it looks like I am some where in the vicinity of 80% done with this game, which the total of the .MZXs will be about 8 meg (that?s just the .MZXs no music)

That was my problem with MZX.  I had two big projects that became two big MZX files that both went *poof* as you so accurately described.

I remember playing the old starflight game.  This I must see when it comes out.  Sounds promising!

I'm very paranoid about TNW in this respect....I can't let any of the world files creep over 1000KB, and one of 'em is dangerously close. Right around 940 or so...thus, I'm backing up heavily should anything go wrong ^_^;;

Naw, its further than that, I had my .MZX up to 2.8 meg with out any problems, (takes only 1.5 seconds to load like that) and any way, save many multiple copies, I change the name almost every week, so if something goes bad I can simply revert to the last one, or if I'm hitting buttons to fast and delete an important robot, I have merely to grab it again off the old board.

Well here is the time line for game development:
(These are gross approximations)
1 month to create/draw alien races also finish up the hail screen

1 month to make all ~150 planets and ~50 stars

2 months to make all non-random interactions (conversations & battles) also do what I can for cut scenes (they will be limited because I am not particularly good at them)

And probably 2 months for beta testing (well this totals almost 3 years in the making so it will take at least that long to test & retest)

Of course these numbers might be totally off and I might release next week (although don't count on it.) I hope to release the official demo before that so you all get a taste of it

And then, after the release of the demo...

after SFmzx we might just have to change it to:
"Official MZX Stud"
but I have to earn that one.

Okay, I am being very stupid. (but then again, that's my job)

LOL! Yeah, can't believe you dug that up, but I'll wait for the full release of the game to change it. Oh and I might add another month onto the release date just to add a section that explains all of the good stuff in the game

KenOhki! Send me that game! My tracking skills are somewhat primitive at the moment, but I'm absolutely -sure- I'll be able to come out with something for your game.

All right, the P.E. screen is now 100% complete, after several major breakthroughs, (I thought it would take 2 weeks but only a few hours were needed). With the time I've saved on that, I'll clean up the "blink" that occurs on the in-system travel & combat screens. (Wasn?t gonna but I might as well now).  I have decided to keep the hail screen relatively simple, the old one I made had about 30 different functions, (way too much) so I'll reduce it to more like 5-10. Also the way the P.E. screen is set up allows me to define upgrades for your planet Lander (armor, battery, cargo capacity, and resistances to earthquakes/hotspots. Maybe a speed one too.)  Not sure if those will be individual upgrades, or if you just upgrade the Lander and get a little of each every time.

Hmm, as for the aliens in this game I know how each one will act and stuff, but I'm at a total loss for ideas on what they should look like. And suggestions? There will be about 7 alien races in there so a few suggestions would be helpful. (Otherwise I'm stuck copying the SC2 aliens :asthanos: )

Just hold on a second guys, I'm not sending out the beta right now, wait for the demo it isn't too far away. And when it does come out I plan to make a lot of noise so don't you worry about missing it.

Alright, for the complaints I've received about movement being hard to detect, you will be pleased to note that I have added in a really neat engine trail following the ships in combat. This makes it significantly easier to follow the action.
