I honestly don't get how the select trick could have possibly made it into the final product.  That's just...sloppy.  Not that it isn't an interesting trick but it's a really terrible bug when you think about it.

I actually assume that the Select Bug is a hardware problem, not software... seeing how it affects other games as well.

EDIT: It works with Start as well.

MZM: I believe I commented on the final boss a while back. *Screw attack, dodge, missle, repeat* Something like that.

That...doesn't make any sense. If the system design is sane then they'd be handled the same way all of the other buttons (including the D-pad) would be. If it were a hardware problem it probably wouldn't affect later models (namely the GameBoy Pocket, Color, and Advance).

It might be a problem with the input library or code that those games use. It looks like it's just modifying memory that it shouldn't be.

I am about to start time-attacking Metroid II as soon as I am done celebrating the fact that I actually managed to finish it (Omega < Zeta, Queen > All Combined * 2). Yeah.

ALSO: This means I have conquered every Gameboy Metroid ghaem ever. YAYZ.

Mother Brain is somewhat overpowered in Zero Mission, first time I actually had trouble in a Mother Brain fight although there is a nice way to help beat her... you can leave the room and come back and she'll still be on the same health, or so my friend says...

Mother Brain is the only boss in Zero Mission that actually killed me.

I don't even think you can get off of the screen when you start the fight so, uh, I don't think what you friend said was true. I never tried it but I very much doubt it.

The status of the zebetites are saved, however. One of the things that I did was destroy all of them, run out, collect missiles/energy from the security cannons, save the game, and run back in.

Mother Brain killed you guys? Wow. The only boss that killed me was Meta-Ridley at the very end. And then I figured out my *space jump, dodge, missle, repeat* strategy, and made easy work out of him. I am not the best at pulling strategies out of my ass on my first try.

The biggest reason that Mother Brain killed me was that I was standing on the left most platform and EVERYTHING seems to go there. >_< I kept getting repeatedly knocked into the acid. The second time went much more smoothly.

I thought Meta-Ridley was kind of a joke. Then again, I did sort of pull the space jump, dodge, missile, repeat strategy out of my ass. He only hit me a couple of times. I guess that's not as bad as the Omega Metroid on Fusion -- that boss hit me once or twice on my first time playing it and, uh, now it literally can't touch me.

I thought Meta-Ridley was joke even without the Space Jump Missile Trick, although I've found myself using it often.

What I find REALLY fun is using Super Missles in the SJDMR trick =D

ALSO: I fust found out my old game was in easy mode when I started a new game today, because Kraid took me two tries =P

I just faced Mother Brain on my time attack game and found that I either do really well against her (i.e. only down one or two energy tanks) or I do really horribly (i.e. DIE). There is no gray area. Period. :|

Speaking of my time attack game, I'm currently just getting on the mothership and I'm at around 1:05. I'm pretty confident that I can beat it in under two hours...I'm already done with half of the game. I'm down one energy tank from what I had initially (I had 6 on my first run and I have 5 now) but since the only real threat to my survival -- Mother Brain -- has been eliminated I won't have too much to worry about. I did pretty well during the stealth sequence anyway.

I'm also getting pretty good at wall jumping and I think I'm going to be able to dramatically reduce some of the time spent in the stealth section because of that.

Auuggg! Ridley is hard in Normal Mode. I mean, the good ol' strategies I used to use are worthless because he hits so hard. I need more Super Missles and Energy Tanks...

Other than that I might post an "Explaination" of the Missle tank system that I thought up while looking at a laptop magizine.

Mwa ha ha ha. I defeated Normal Mode in 2:20 (the whole second half only took me about 20 minutes, how sad). Now, this time I need to keep away from missle powerups and those PB powerups, I didn't really need them until the escape part. Super Missles do the job for missles perfectly, in my opinion. It took 5 or 6 hits to wreck Meta-Ridleys sad ass, but I forgot to use them on Mother Brain. Am I the only one here who uses Super Missles first, then Missles later? And how do you unlock hard mode, I thought you could do that by beating Normal mode?

All you have to do for Ridley is stand under his claws for most of the battle. XD Easy stuff.

That doesnt really make sense. When he trys to stabby at you, you roll into a ball and dodge. When he attacks you with his clawz, you roll into a ball and move (unless you are in easy, and then you can let him grab you and come out to tell the tale). Then, when he starts moving at you, blast his ugly face, and roll into a ball and dodge. Small fireballs, I do not have a solution. Big balls, you just stand in a corner until the balls are vertically level with you, and then you jump to the big platform.

ALSO: I am trying a speed run with a higher item percent than 70%, last time was 64% or somthing.

ALSO II: I try not to save, ever. It takes too much time in the long run. Unfortunatly, my mom is never happy unless I am doing some sort of physical labor or listening to her bitch about something I really don't care about, so I have to save quite often. This should change during the Summer though =P

EDIT: Try hard mode :p

No, trust me. Stand right under the middle of Ridley at all times (except when he starts doing the stabby) and it won't hurt -- at all. There's a video of it at metroid2002.com.

I'm currently up to around 85% on my 100% game. I should have that finished fairly soon. I got the final boss down to a T -- under 30 seconds using very few super missiles and not even one energy tank knocked off. It's kind of sad, really -- I have more trouble with the black pirates near the end (though I have an idea on how to deal with them a bit better next time). :p

Ok, I need help with the following items (I swore I would not use an FAQ):

The Super Missle Tank in Brinstar (I have an idea but i cant get the door open)
Just about every item in Crateria (except the first Missle Tank)

I have noticed that just about all of the above need a speed burst or shinespark, but I have no idea how to get it to them (or, in Brinstar, get the dam door open)

Here is what I do know how to do about the Brinstar one:
Start running at the bottom of the second large vertical shaft, and run to the room to the right.
When you are charged, you need to roll into a ball and shinespark to the left.
I don't know how to get the door open though.

The rest I just need to look hard for =P

You're in luck, I made a video of me getting both a missile tank and the super missile tank (this was from my recent savestate-free 1:21 emulator run* from, uh, me being bored in my VB class):

http://www.spectere....upermissile.wmv

I compressed the jeebus out of it (it's only 317KB) but you should be able to see what's going on fairly easily. You have to be pretty quick and rather accurate.

If you already got the missile tank in the middle room you can recharge the ball spark by hitting down at any time after you go over the ramp (since you hit the ramp you'll just roll quickly, not fly straight, so don't keep going under any means), backtrack to the ramp inside of the middle room (make sure you go through the zoomers first otherwise you'll have to start over), and ball-spark left. That should do it.

If you look at the video it should explain everything.

*I have a long VisualBoy Advance movie file from the run. It's kind of boring to watch, though, and I screwed up a decent number of times (I did a lot of experimenting -- like I said, I was bored). If you're really interested in it I can link to it but, uh, I don't recommend it.

Wow. I figured out how to get into the middle room from the right side (using shinespark) but I still couldn't figure out how to get out the left with a shinespark. That movie explains a lot, thank you.

Whoo hoo! I figured out how to get all of the items in Brinstar and Kraid (and HAVE gotten them, that SM tank was a bitch), and I just finished a game in normal mode in a juicy 2:01:13, 71% items (I threw my gameboy controller across my room when I found out, TWO DAMN MINUTES OFF! I use my broken GBA as a controller on the GBP). I was hoping for a 2 Hours < completion, so I could get two endings off of one file without starting a new game (2 Hours <, 2-4 Hours with 100% Items). Now, I shall start trying to get all of the items (Crateria = Bitch, Norfair is a cakewalk now I have PB and GravSuit, Ridley = I may use a map, Chozodia = ROTFLMAO) Also, I do not put using a map and using a walkthrough on the same level, because the map only gives you hints, but the walkthrough tells you exactly how to do it. Just thought you should know that.

I still need help with any Crateria items, I do not get how to get any of them except the first two missle tanks (Near PlsmBeam, and near the Norfair Elevator). I do, fortunatly, know the exact locations of every item.

Ouch, I know how that feels, unfortunately. :p That happened to me twice on Fusion.

I agree. Maps don't really tell you much more than the game does (aside from areas you might not have explored and what kind of item it is) not to mention that you can usually find hidden rooms by power bombing every screen (especially in Fusion where you can get a ton of power bombs).

Some of the items in Crateria are a bitch to get. If I remember on Thursday I'll make some videos for it during my VB class -- I got all of the ones in Crateria (without a map, even) on my DS. Fortunately, there aren't too many items to get. The worst one was, by far, in the outdoor section. It requires a fairly precise shinespark to get -- it took me so many tries to get that one, but I think I have it down now.

Yesterday I managed to find how to get the Power Bomb in Crateria, but havent managed to get it yet. My only problem is I shinespark too soon.

I also had to use a map to find out the locations of the last 7 missles I couldn't get in my previous run in Ridley. I was already knew of one location, at the lower left part. Another one I was quite suspicious of, the three towards the middle that are hidden after a Super Missles. The last two, in the middle of the right most shaft, I knew nothing about. Now, I feel that I should not have ROTFLMAOed at Ridley, because I could only get the three near the Super Missles. So I shall go lurk in Chozodia, where the items are much nicer that the ones elsewhere =P

EDIT: Can shinespark balls go diagonal? If so, I AM SAVED!

EDIT: Whoot! I am down to:

6 Missle Tanks
2 Energy Tanks
1 Super Missle Tank

They are in:

4 Missle Tanks: Ridley
1 Missle Tank: Tourain
1 Missle Tank, 1 Super Missle Tank: Crateria
2 Energy Tanks: Chozodia

I have 0:53:10 to get them. I am feeling quite confident that I will get another ending.

Awesome! :p

On my original game (the one I beat in ~3:30 right after I bought the game) I'm working on a 4+ hour 100% completion run. I managed to collect around 83% of items without a map so far, but I think I might start using one soon. I dunno.

Oh, and I think I know which two energy tanks in Chozodia you're talking about. Heh, have fun with them. The one near that water area requires a series of shinesparks from the water area to the, uh, "shaft" area. The one near Mecha Ridley is a bit easier. I know I have videos of at least the water one if you want to see it. I can make one for the Mecha Ridley area relatively easily, though.

Heh, thanks. I don't really need the video of the Mecha Ridley tank though. I figured I had to "Carry" a shinespark to the shaft, though, in the other one. A video would really help there, seeing as I can't get it to the small platform above the huge platform above the "Runway" =P

The Mecha Ridley tank isn't too hard to get, it's just the timing of the shinespark that can be sort of tricky.

The shaft one took me a while to get decent at. For some reason it seems like the space jump gets weird when Samus jumps out of the water so yeah, I usually have kind of a hard time getting to that little platform.

Here's a video of that section: http://www.spectere....a-sparktank.wmv

It reminds me of the tro super bomb tank in Fusion, except a whole lot worse. :p

Edit: Fixed video URL.

Tro Power Bomb tank... the one behind the Hi-Jump Boots boss battle area, no? I hated that one, and I could never figure out how to get it. Well, actually, now I do =P

Also, thank you for the video. Maybe I can get that tank now =D

EDIT: You make it look too easy >=(

Yay, I figured got 3 of the 9 items I am missing (one I had to give up because I did'nt want to trek back to ridley, that wastes my precious time) and I know how to get 4 more. I am still boggled by the Crateria Super Missle and the Tourain Missle, but I bet i will figure those out =P

In case you wanted to know I have gotten the easier 2 of the 4 I am missing in Ridley, and I got the Missle in Crateria. This is kind of rude to ask, but Spectere, could you please make me a video of the Tourain Missle Tank? I would also ask for the Super Missle in Crateria, but I am getter warmer on that one, and have found two possible "Runways" to use to get it. One is too complicated though, and takes a lot of time. It is to the left of the two large pillars. The other is the one used for the Missle Tank, and I haven't messed with it that much.

I got the one more ending in Fusion. I completed the game in 1:22 with 23% item completion (as it turns out I could have shaved off quite a bit of time if I had left some of the unnecessary energy tanks behind but oh well), then copied that game to a different slot, grabbed the rest of the items, and finished it with 100% item completion in 2:44 (that's HOURS shy of my previous 100% time: 7:03). One more ending to go...

One remarkable thing about my latest completion of the game (100% @ 2:44) is that none of the final bosses hit me at all (aside from the required Omega Metroid hit, of course). I never thought I'd think of Fusion as being easy. Let's just say, when I first got the game a couple of years ago I couldn't do the fight against Arachnid...at all. I didn't touch the game until around the time that I made this thread (which was a couple of weeks after I started playing Prime again.

Of course I can. Don't worry about asking me for videos -- I love playing the game and I like to show off. :p

Heh, I have a feeling you're making it much more complicated than it needs to be.

Same with this one.

I'll give you a hint: for both of these items you can charge using the same runway.

XD

I actually find the game to be easier to play on the DS for the most part (there are some exceptions, of course...battles like the one with SA-X are usually easier to do on an emulator for me).

Edit: One thing I should mention -- for me the hardest part with that is transferring between the water and air. For some reason the game gets weird when you space jump out of water. Maybe it's just me but it seems like I have to tap jump an additional time to get away from the water. That's the area that I really had trouble with when I worked that sequence out. :cold:
