What I find particulary interesting about the megzeux community is that some of you are artists, and some of you are programmers and somewhere in the mix there are some musicians..

I'm an artist, I like to tell stories, and megazeux just happens to be a perfectly good tool to tell stories. Its limititations makes it even better because it forces me to think outside the box of how I'm going to present the story in a smart way..

So what is your excuse? Are you a programmer, or an artist? And why do you do MZX?

My specialty would probably be telling stories. I usually have little to no problem thinking up a plot and complex backstory for a MegaZeux game (although it defininately doesn't reflect some of my earlier games), and I am currently working on a novel. I'm not the best when it comes to drawing, and I can't play any instraments. But at least I have writing.

I'm a little of both. It really depends on my mood. I like art a little better, because once I see what I've created, it inspires me. I like programming because it gives me a sense of satisfaction if I perfect the task I'm trying to do.

The downfall to programming, though, is that I'm not at all good at it. I am a slow learner, especially in Robotic. I praise Exophase for the quick Alt + T testing feature. What really bugs me is when there is a bug in my code that is right in front of my face, but I blow right past it. This happened to me just recently which was very frustrating, when I realized I had not set my scrollview position right and thought my characters weren't walking the right paths, but they were actually just out of view without my realizing.

I greatly acknowldege the other artist types, because if they're good at it, their work makes me do better work due to inspiration surges.

The reason why I megazeux is for a mixed number of reasons. I guess my main focus with mzx has been mainly programming and learning new things with what I would call a more limited language (i should probably use C++ for what I try to do half the time).

Anyways I do have the capacity to also write music and stories, and draw too. Im very open with my music and art, but with my literature, Im a bit more picky, having not really released anything with too indepth of a story and more focused on eye candy, humour, and short bits of gameplay.

I haven't had the time to sit down and write a story as I would want to for a game. If I actually took the time, Id probably organize a rather large project with depending on the goals of the project, certain focuses relating to what I want to accomplish. I also tend to try to take way to much on at a time overwhelming myself.

Another good reason why I don't take the time is I find I get bored easily of an idea if I find no one else seems intrested in it.

Also, I find Im much more productive in all aspects of game creation when I am working with another person creating the game.

What you said kinda sums up how I view MZX. Actually it did in one aspect very well. That screen of my secret sneaky game in Vince's thread is like, mainly a story.

You could say I'm a MZXer, artist, and musician. And writer.

"Heck, everyone's a writer. It's like saying you're a WALKER."

I'm a writer and a sound effects guy. I mean...I'm not actually a sound effects guy by trade (I really just take existing sounds and mix them together to make new ones) but I tend to put a lot more work into sounds than most other people. While most people I know, when presented with the task of making a sound for a Desert Eagle, would probably just rip the sound from Counter-Strike; I'm not content with just stealing a wav file - I take "components" from other sounds and merge them into better ones. (CS Desert Eagle + NOLF1 AK-47 + SOF Slugthrower = Awesome automatic shotgun sound)

ARTIST.

ARTIST.

I am very bad at programming, much less doing it quickly and doing it well. This is the reason I never get my MZX games done ... Yet I can do a webcomic--two, actually--and ... well, other things on top of that that're art related ...

Tis why whenever I join a DoZ team, I always prefer to handle anything art related.

When I can be bothered, I'm quite good at telling stories, or at least I like to believe so. Programming is not anything I'm good at, but I enjoy it so it's all good.

I don't really belong here because I don't really do mzx. Instead, I listen to astral talk about mzx, to the extent that I've heard lots of names and feel the need to join forums! Yay for not belonging. :(

Musician. As far as programming goes, I've tried it before and it just isn't my pint. I'll just have to find other people to help me with my devious creations, if any of them should ever materialize.

Musician.

I like doing bits of digital art and designing web pages and stuff, but I'm not really an artist in a big way, so I'll stick with music.

As for programming, it's just not something I find appealing.

This is a really tough question- I'm both. Not one more than the other.

ARTIST: I like-nay, love creating graphics for my games, and I often redraw the char several times to get it right and then edit it some more. I make sure that I have a palette that has all the colors I need, and then I end up mixing colors later on. I currently have several different palettes that I use for almost all my games unless I need a special color- that's how PERFECT they are.

PROGRAMMER: I'd like to say I'm a rather skilled programmer, though I of course pale in comparison to the likes someone such as Logicow. Still, I tend to always be satisfied with my creations- I managed to fit the animation, platforming and menu engines for Untitled into the global robot :)

Brain Damage

This special subsection belongs to people who aren't quite bitter enough to be a Bitter Oldbie. They're easily detectable by what they say: they usually spit out things like "SHOOT THE CORE", "avacado pretzel sink for the win", "towns marty <3" or some random foreign phrase (etc.). When they're properly motivated, they can make decent conversation; however, this doesn't happen too much.
Suprisingly, Brain Damage tends to do more community stuff than most, possibly as credence to their oldbieism.

Present Examples: Terryn, Kurushimi, Apollyon
Former Examples: The Finnards

:(

Anyway I'm probably a programmer, although sometimes I get slack and hang around so yeah >_>

I am a programmer for a living, but when it comes to MZX, I vastly prefer writing dialogue, level design (and puzzle design), and of course graphics. My latest MZX game is actually quite different from what I'm used to - most of the level design and the graphics are already there, so I'm focused almost exclusively on programming and dialogue writing. Programming in MZX is pretty awkward for someone who's used to the flexibility of C++ and requires a lot of hacks and excess code writing to get it to do what I want.

Artist/Musician(kinda). I'd rather make graphics and sample and mix music than program, but I'll program if I have to.

I like MZX because it is simple and it allows me to practice developing my ideas for a future career without programing a whole lot.

A bit of an artist I guess. I like drawing, and drawing graphics and animations in MZX is just as fun as drawing on a paper. Programming is not exactly my piece of cake though.

I consider myself an artist, though I can program a bit. I also track music for my games, even though it isn't any good. Lately, I've stopped including music in whatever I release.

designer, programmer, and remixer.
i love to design. john and i still have several hunderd square feet of maps for zokor. i also love programming the things. the enemy code in zokor really has some actual ai in it. the guys are a couple hundred lines each.
as far as music goes, i can't compose, but i can remix stuff for games.

overall, i just enjoy the entire process.
