Well I figured it's time I started a journal for my new game.

Here's a little info:

It's called Gunmetal Joe
It's a shooter where your friend, Jack, has croosed an Italian druglord and he was imprisoned. You have to go through little missions and finally, get to the prison and battle the druglord.

Basically, that's the storyline that I have planned out. Things may change as I go along. I may not update it very much, though.

In terms of weapons, I've decided to have a pistol, a shotgun, AK47, rocket launcher, grenades, and C4. Each weapon will have its own amount of ammo and there will be a sidebar to see ammo, health, etc.

Pistol - Basically the default shooting in any other MZX game. 12 rounds per clip

Shotgun - shoots 3 bullets at once. 10 round cartridge

AK47 - Rapid firing machine gun. 24 rounds per clip

Rocket launcher - shoots rockets... that's it

Grenades - Throw 'em, they blow up

C4 - Plant C4, press the trigger on the remote, and Bam! Put a little spice on it!

I've been thinking about a flame thrower, but I probably won't have one. If I could get some weapon suggestions, that'd be great.

The movement will be a little different. When you push up, you will move in the direction you are facing. Push left and right to rotate. Down will go backwards. It's like Grand theft auto in terms of movement and the fact that it will be overhead view (also, vehicles are a possibility).

I may post screenshots once in a while, but anyway, that's what it is for now.
Fuck Jeff Goldbloom, man.

Pistol shouldn't be default. Make it slow. And make it that you need to reload shotgun every time you shoot =D I can't wait to see a screenshot. You know. I'm gonna try to make those weapons my self =D Good luck! Can't wait!

I'll take that into consideration. Feedback is what I'm looking for here.

EDIT: Just got an idea. Whenever you shoot the shotgun you have to press a button to reload it, then a shell flies out. Eh, Red Penguin?

Update: Just working on a test page now to get things going. Once I figure out all the robots I need (for the status bar, movement, etc.), I'll get going on other boards. Need to make robots for status overlay, movement, current weapons, stuff like that. The robots are strategically placed under the staus bar, ha ha! No need to hide them on the board!

Still need to work on a font. I've been thinking about using the font in my avatar (phoenix1), but with text that small, it could be hard to read.

EDIT: PREVIOUS POST: Chronos Stasis

that title board reminds me of those old text files that companies like apogee, id and epic megagames would put in with their shareware files, that opened in dos and had cool headers like that

i miss those days

anyway i like it but you may want to consider elaborating upon it

That is sincerely a very nice title screen but next time take your screenshots in some mode of full-screen. Also what is that blue abortion on top of your screen and why are you running in 800x600, just to poke at your personal computing life.

EDIT: And for another crazy thing why in the many-tiered hell are you using Internet Explorer

It depends on what you do with it. 128MB is perfectly fine for web-browsing and playing light games.

Because, as Lancer has shown us, randomness is "teh funy".

I wish you good fortune on your megazeux endeavor sir.

I agree with you- when humanity touches the stars I shure do hope I'm already dead so I don't have to deal with pop-up advertising on my wristwatch

The kind where little holographic crystal vapors fly out of the face so you can taste the advertisement!

Hey, guys. It's been a while since I made any updates, so, here you go. Here's my sidebar.

Posted Image

As you can see the weapons are in there and all the keys are, too. Still just working on a test board to get everything started up.

I have the guns in the board, but can't shoot yet. I made the engine for the walking. Not much further progress right now.

Some more slow progress. Shooting engine nearing completion. Also decided to make the player's character one character and just use char edits. Kinda like Chuck in Cans. That will save me alot of characters.

I know it's been almost a year since this thread was started, but I'm bringin it back.

I have changed some things since what I said in the first post. The storyline will be totally different, there aren't going to be any Italian druglords. At first I was thinking of a Grand Theft Auto type storyline with gangs and stuff like that, but I have decided to make it more like Metal Gear Solid or Goldeneye.

The guns are pretty much the same as the first post.

Pistol - Shoots 12 rounds per clip. Semi-automatic

Shotgun - Shoots 3 bullets at a time. Have to press the reload button after every time you shoot.

AK47 - Automatic assault rifle. 24 rounds per clip.

Rocket Launcher - shoot out deadly rockets that explode.

Grenades - Throw them, wait, and they explode.

C4 - Plant them on walls then press the remote and they will explode.

So far I have only finished the engine for the pistol. Because of the fact that it is semi-automatic if you hold spacebar it only shoots once. I also included a sound effect of the shell hitting the ground. It has a 12 round clip, so after 12 shots you can't shoot again until you press the reload button, which is Z for now because it's right by the spacebar.

The movement is still the same as I explained, in the top-down GTA style movement.

The status bar is a little different. I removed the score display because I don't need it. I will post some screenshots later on.

My inspiration has come from many places including the Grand Theft Auto series, Goldeneye 007, Tomb Raider 3, and Metal Gear solid, among others.

So I will try to keep updated, as I am working on this in my free time.

No comments about the game as always, Goshi.

Switchblade, it's good too see you're going back to finish this project. I'm actually looking forward to a GTA style game for mzx, since I don't know if T-bone is going to be finishing GTA mzx city anytime soon.
