'burnt' is a quality of an object, like "burnt wood"

'burned' is when you're talking past-tense verb, "that bastard took that flaming hot poker and burned my face"

Isn't burnt an adjective

We had burnt hamburgers because Bob can't use a grill to save his life.

Bob burned the hamburgers because he can't use a grill to save his life.

I'm too lazy to go to dictionary.com

Edit: Zamros knows his shit

Burned is like past tense, you know like JIMMY BURNED RUBBER.
You could say JIMMY BURNT RUBBER, but it would be better to say
JIMMY's BURNT RUBBER. lol :(

Sorry to bring this back up, but I've found myself using "burnt"
in my everyday life instead of "burned."

EDIT: I WILL NOT LET THIS THREAD DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find burned more functional. Burnt is really only effective in the passive voice: "you got burnt." I burnt you sounds weird.

However, "I burned you," in the active voice, sounds fantastic. As does "You got burned."

Burned wins.

look, as was said earlier (I believe)

Burned = VERB
Burnt = ADJECTIVE

I burned the toast
the toast is burnt
The burnt toast was burned.
Burnt toast burned by me!
You burned no such toast
for your toast isn't burnt
Burnt toast burned not by you
but by me.
I burned the burnt toast while it burned

Koji yes i realise that. I say "burnt" because the person/object in question has been burned, and thus is now burnt.

Okay everyone you can stop saying the same thing over and over now. We all know the difference between burned and burnt. Besides, the effective way of using it isn't even in the past tense.

And Captain Pancake, please stop reviving this topic. If nobody responds for a long period of time, 9 times out of 10 it means they don't want to see it again--so don't bring it back up for little to no reason.

edit: that was supposed to be Commander Pancake. D'AUGH!!
