Just thought I'd let you all know that I've arrived safely in Fukuoka. I think I may look into setting up a blog while I'm here. Or maybe not. But, things look to be hectic and busy and very intense for the next six weeks, so I don't know how much time I'll have anyway. So far, Japan is awesome, and rainy. More to come; discuss.

Hehe, that's awesome Wervyn. Hope you have a great time there.

EDIT: Also is it just me or does the font look all weird whene the Japanese Charecters (I never cared for the name) are on the same page?

I had no idea you were going to Japan. Still, though. Cool. :(
Hope you have a lovely time. :(

Hey man, set up a blog. I'm interested in heading off to Japan myself some day; I'd definitely read it. If you have time, that is! That's awesome, I'm so envious.

EDIT: also I have a Japanese kana character set on this machine, but I can't read the title :(

Yeah, the kana in the title isn't working for me either. From the look of it it needs to be viewed explicity in a kana font (since it isn't UTF-8) so that would explain why it's not working.

EDIT: Yeah, since AR PL New Sung can't show it. Looks like it was typed directly with a JIS keyboard for that particular typeset.

Fixed the title. Sort of, anyway, it should technically be こんにちは, but apparently the unicode for that is too long and the は at the end gets clipped. I guess I won't be able to use the Japanese computers here to post in Japanese characters, though, I'll have to settle for using my own computer.
I'm here in Japan studying abroad for six weeks of intense class action. It's been fun and a little overwhelming so far. Baraged with lots of Japanese so far, about a third to half of which I understand, but everyone here is of course very nice and very helpful, and are as eager to try out their broken English as I am to try out my broken Japanese.
If I can figure out how to get AIM to connect, I'll probably talk to seven about setting me up something a little more custom than a stock livejournal, but I may have to settle for what I can get. If it comes to it, I suppose I can always just blog in this thread. Now, though, I think I'll just get some sleep. They do keep us busy here...

That's what I've been hearing too, and after having been stalked by one over AIM for about a year (she registered about sixteen different names to get around my blocks), I don't doubt that.

Hilarious. I take it you did see that before he changed it the title was a random bunch of nondescript unicode characters? Either that or you just felt like telling me that you can't juggle. Okay.

In any case I guessed he was just saying Greetings from Japan again, and it turns out I was right. 日本 (nihon) being japan, から (kara) being from, and well we all know what konnichi wa is.

But you're right; I don't know how to juggle either.

EDIT: Actually, I did have something constructive to say. If you get a chance; check out a Shogi club over there. Shogi is very unpopular in Australia, but since Japan is its country of origin... in any case, it's a really neat game. Really tactical, moreso than chess. A lot of calculation.

It makes no real difference if you can't speak Japanese, it just makes it difficult to go around. Whilst I haven't been there my parents and siblings have.

Of course I wanted to go, but if my parents are going then I'm out.

Go is more strategically aligned. Shogi is like the exact opposite.

If you try to play strategically in Shogi you will burn and you will burn quickly.

But yes go is awesome I must admit.
