Yay 4 pointless pollz :(

EDIT: Specifically, what's the worst horribly overrated, modern game you've ever played. It has to be one of those games that the so-called video game 'critics' give praising reviews of because they have no actual taste and are just following the popular videogaming culture.

I guess, out of those, I'd say World of Warcraft or perhaps Doom 3, which in either case is a style of game I'm not extremely fond of and an example of a game that's polished until there's nothing left. Not that I really dislike either game, so much. =P I'm probably not the person to answer this question.

I was probably most disappointed with FEAR of the above. After all of the oral sex that everyone gave Monolith over that game I failed to be that impressed with it. If anything, I thought it was mostly just tedious, boring, and, in many parts, just plain stupid. Mediocre game, at best.

I voted "Not Listed" out of protest. Though in all seriousness, I'd say that Halo 2 is the low point of the choices given. It just seems like a generic shooter, considering that it really doesn't bring anything new to the table in terms of new and interesting gameplay. Even with the dual-wield system, it feels exactly like Halo 1 did (which, to me, feels a lot like the original Half-Life - interesting at first, but then it degenerates into wandering hallways, killing the same enemies over and over, and then performing some arbitrary task).

Battlefield: Vietnam had mouse smoothing forced on.

Mouse smoothing sucks.

If you think otherwise you suck at first person shooters.

vagrant story. i paid twenty dollars for that because i got it mixed up with valkyrie profile or vandal hearts or some other playstation game that starts with a v

i also dislike the single player mode of pretty much any id shooter besides quake 2, because they manage to get old after the first three or four levels.

As far as overrated goes, from what everyone I've talked to about it (coughasgromocough) System Shock 2 sounded like it was the best game in the universe. So when I finally got a copy, I found out that it was really just a slightly annoying Half Life clone (well almost; I liked the Many more than those damn aliens). Though the game is still pretty cool on some levels, the gameplay can get pretty tedious since at a point there stops being new enemies and they throw nothing but what you've seen at you while you're running around to find ammo (though to be honest those are both at seperate points in the game). There needs to be some sort of enforced rule about if make a FPS, there needs to be enough ammo to NEVER run out completely.

Most OVERRATED game in the list is Half-Life 2.

The game I find most boring in the list is Halo 2, though, I don't think that's boring. Just not THAT great.

Now in all time, I'm gonna go with Final Fantasy X.

I haven't played Call of Duty 2 or Quake 4, haven't felt like it, so I can't comment on those.

I found I had plenty of ammo by the end, even on Impossible. However I wrenched/lasersabred/crystalsharded/energypistoled my way though most of the game specifically to avoid wasting ammo.

In one game I actually had four fully-upgraded energy pistols in my possession just so I could generally blaze away with long trips between recharge stations (and so I wouldn't have to waste batteries).

Either way, ammo was a valuable commodity in System Shock 2, you had to be very careful about it. However I too was a little annoyed about the whole throwing unlimited enemies at you while you're trying to figure out what to do next but giving you limited ammo thing.

That aside, it really is quite a nice game, however having a game hyped in front of you over and over again, then to play it and find that the game in question, while being quite reasonable, is NOT the best game since Ultima 4 does indeed bite.

i haven't played most of these, so for me the choice is doom 3 or fear. doom 3.
it was like doom except for a few important changes. first off, it looked prettier. the tradeoff here is that it ran like absolut shit on a laptop that isn't too terrible. second off, unless you get the ducttape mod (which i never got to try), you have to choose between seeing your enemy and defending yourself.
imps changed from relatively easy critters to, essentially, jurrasic park velociraptors. you can't see them. then they fly at you. and then you see red slash marks across the screen and you're like "damn!"

and the biggest issue? we can set up a base on mars but we have yet to figure out how to make a semi-automatic shotgun =(

edit: fear (demo) at least had the courtesy to not run when it said my system could. it didn't lead me along like doom 3 did.

Aww, you forgot to mention the dozens of abilities, the focus on stealth, the nonlinearity, the enemy AI, the actually complete story, the voice-acted journal entries by which the story is told, the interface that does basically everything and does it gracefully, the realistic level design, and the striking horror atmosphere.

EDIT: Also, you know, it's a first-person RPG, really truly. You can tell by the stat-based combat and abilities and the way you create your character as you play.

yeah the game is approximately 100x better than half life IMHO, but then again I really really hated half life.

Probably because it was hyped so much, and in the end was less fun than Unreal.

Laner, isn't this a rip-off of CHEZZY's poll LOLZ?!?!?!?!?! I'd have taken
out Doom 3 and Quake 4. They are the best ones. I voted World
Of Warcraft because it costs money to play it and it isn't even that
good. I'm saying this because I hate MMORPG's. >=(

It's an incredibly blunt mockery of CHEZZY's poll because he created a 'what's the best game ever' poll with a list of extraordinarily mediocre games.

I'd have to say Doom 3. iD has thankfully redeemed themselves with Quake 4.

That was Raven, who seem to generally redeem id for its sillier works.

The worst game I've ever played might be Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time but nobody agrees with me. You wanna talk about "can't stand for five minutes", that would be the one.

You are so full of it. Spelling favourite as 'favorite' is a strictly American method of spelling. I could be from ANYWHERE.

Specifically not the UK.

Final Fantasy X is TRIPLE A+ HORRIBLE. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time is pretty good but not more then that.

Goldeneye and Vagrant Story are both kickass though. So Phoenix got 50% right, but that's not enough, so TO THE STAB MACHINE WITH YOU.

After looking over the poll several times, I have a hard time understanding why some people say "all these games suck". They might fall out of your taste, but uhm, none of these games really suck. If you think these games suck, then take your time and check out games like Superman 64 - then you'll have a new definition of what it takes for a game to suck.
