I haven't bought one yet. But I want one, it's awesome. I'd sell my PSP... but Gradius Portable is so good!

Whyyyy does Nintendo do this? TT_TT
I already have a normal DS. I can't afford the new one. Boo.
Oh well. I like my normal DS anyway.
Here I am, back from space! Now, where are the ghosts?

DS Lite sounds pretty good, does it still run the
same games as DS? (most probably)

I have a DS Lite and I love it to pieces. I got New Super Mario Bros. with it and I just got the Castlevania game. Both are excellent.

Edit: Yes, it's pretty much the same as the regular DS except for the layout change and new backlighting options. The lighting's great if it's cloudy outside but the sun just completely ruins it.

I always needed a good excuse to get a new DS, my current one is really screwed up right now.

But Selan's right though, why does Nintendo always do this? Are they trying to steal our money or something?

I prefer my current DS, thank you. If I were to get a Lite, my thumbs would probably hate me (since I have enough trouble playing twitch games with this one).

i have the original and i'm perfectly happy with that, i've played the lite and it's pretty cool but not cool enough to buy a whole new one.

if you don't have one yet buy the ds lite version but if you all ready have one don't bother.

plus on the ds lite when you put a gba game in the game like sticks out halfway and it looks really ugly.

Actually they just want you to pay them the money. Then they'll give you a toy.

I got the DS lite and it is awesome. The colors and everything on the screen are just amazing compared to the old one. The old one looks like there's a layer of smog over the screen. Also this thing just looks sexy. The button layout is easier on my thumbs and the stylus is easier to hold (and I don't even have large hands :()

That's not even the brightest setting.

The screen difference is insane.

I just bought a used DS a little while back not really caring about the Lite. Three games and the DS itself for $150.

Right now I have

Super Mario 64 DS
New Super Mario Bros
Mario Kart DS
and asphalt urban gt but i don't talk about THAT one because it's retarded.

This is my Mario Kart friend code

Yes, yes they are. If you look at their handheld systems, it's pretty much a pattern. I mean really, why not just release the GBA SP first, or the DS Lite first?

One thing of note, though: No matter what you might say about usefulness of the Gameboy Pocket and Gameboy Color as systems, it's worth noting that they did actually make practical differences in the games you could play, what with Pocket's screen being larger and the Gameboy Colo being, well, color, which for some games or parts of games could be considered essential. (Pocket was long ago, so forgive me if I'm remembering that wrong.)

Anyway, the pattern seems to be take our money with a basic system, then roll out the really nice version to get more money. That said, I'm fairly glad I never got a Gameboy Advance SP or a DS. If anything now I'll get a DS Lite.

Well, from my point of view, there's two options for why they do this:

1) They put the system out there to see how sucessful it is. Why develop a lite version of something that sucks? I mean that's why you never see diet piss-flavor soda in stores.

2) They just haven't developed the technology to allow for a smaller system yet.

Lastly, LOL PS2 DID IT TOO. I'm not a nintendo fanboy. Just a fanboy of truth.

lol
Need a dispenser here.

Nintendo makes their first version of any portable to be released quickly and get it out there because that's the best strategy, then later they polish it up shink it down and rerelease a newer sleeker well designed version.

It's called "Lets release this for now, and then a better one later"

It's what EVERY company does with their products. You choose wether to purchase the first or second one, you know full well there'll be a better one in a couple years... it'd up to YOU.

Don't blame the company, blame the consumer.

cja and Koji pretty much nailed it.

Really, it's not like Nintendo is the only company to, heaven forbid, IMPROVE their products. As cja pointed out, Sony has done it (slim PS2, PSone, etc). Apple has, what, six different iPod generations (not counting the smaller models)?

The bottom line is, if you don't need the features included in the new model, don't get it. If you want it, trade in or sell your old unit and get some money off of it. The DS Lite's engineers aren't holding a FIFTY FREAKING CALIBER DEAGLE to your head and forcing you to choose between buying a DS Lite and having your head blown off.

What did you end up getting? New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS, Super Princess Peach, Kirby:Canvas Curse, and Tetris DS are all a lotta fun.

i got my ds lite when it came out... it also came with a dead pixel... damn.. so i had it returned and got a new one... so far, i bought 3 games : mp hunters, age of empires and tetris! it's worth the money. the downside to the handheld is that it easily gives your hand some cramps..
