04:19 < Insidious> I have found a bug in GNU Date!
04:19 < Insidious> specifically, if you tell it this:
04:20 < Insidious> date --date=12/31/1969\ 23:59:59\ UTC +%s
04:20 < Insidious> it responds with "invalid date"
04:20 < Insidiou1> however, the date is not invalid
04:20 < Insidiou1> that just happens to be exactly -1 seconds since 1-1-1970 00:00:00
04:21 < Insidiou1> which, seeing as it returns a -1, it assumes to be an error.
04:21 < Insidiou1> to test my theory I tried with this setup
04:21 < Insidiou1> date --date=12/31/1969\ 23:59:58\ UTC +%s
04:21 < Insidiou1> and it replies with -2.
04:23 < Insidiou1> so PAH
04:23 < Insidiou1> all these people that worried about the Y2k problem
04:23 < Insidiou1> we really need to worry about the Y1970-minus-1-second problem!
04:25 I have no idea what that means. :(
04:26 Tox: It means that were linux created before 1970 (it wasnt)
04:26 that all linux machines would have failed to display the date
04:26 on 11:59:59PM on December 31st 1969.
04:27 Oh my.
04:34 I think my cameo game will feature a time machine that goes back to exactly that second in 1969 and then explodes.
04:35 see, thats who it'd be a major problem for
04:35 hippies who have time machines.

<@Tixus> Anyway, I set the year to 1988 for some reason.
<@Tixus> And set the microwave to run for a minute and 28 seconds.
<@Tixus> But it failed to send me back in time, and I was disappointed.
<Insidious> Tixus accidentally microwaved the 80s
<Insidious> that is my takeaway from this

So linux was created with a bug that doesn't affect it. OMG. Insid, you must be repeatedly flogged with every sex toy koji owns for this blasphemous post.

1970 was the Epoch. Nothing before then matters, and is time immemorial. We should erase all history of events prior to that date.

<Malwyn> Yes, yes. Don't worry I'd rather masturbate with broken glass than ask you for help again. :(
