These are two screenshots from an untitled game i've been doodling around with:

Allows up to 60 characters. Pointless but mind-numbingly fun!

do you know why console games have that letter select feature? because they don't have a keyboard to type out names with.

hint hint.

Yes, and this was much easier to program than an input box, imo.

Maybe when you move the cursor around, it turns into Hobo Dan and then an inky black portal (actually a slime blob) pours out of the letter "O" and envelops everything.

Well, get used to everybody undermining everything you do because they think everything sucks. That's pretty much what has become of this forum.

No one exactly said his projects sucked. Your just indirectly attacking us all because we say your stuff need work, huh?

we tease because we love?

I dunno. Usually I end up canceling projects because I can't do them, not because other people didn't like them.

All you really showed us was a plain looking status bar and naming system... So, obviously, this game could've used some more work.

new ninja game idea. might salvage pieces of other projects, like sh2's original (and unoriginal ;)) music, hippiegame's health bar, and this... thing's ...sword and naming engine. it will probably fail too.

edit: and maybe hippiegame's zzt bomb

I got the impression from the other thread that people were actually looking forward to SH2. Do you have evidence to the contrary, or are you abandoning that project for other reasons?

abandoned mainly because i ran out of ideas, and support on irc had disappeared (the main thing that kept the project going for so long), mainly because the two biggest supporters hate me now.

Kuro, don't get all emo and such just because you don't get replies on your journal. :( Besides, if you work on these things with the intention of pleasing others than you're doing it for all the wrong reasons, methinks.

Have fun with MegaZeux; make these cool little things for you, not anyone else. The engines and stuff that I released weren't extraordinary in any way, but I had a lot of fun making them.

CHEER UP AND BE JOLLY. Oh, and make a new episode of LRA, damnit. ;)

i dont give a flying fuck about how many replies i get to my journal, and i seem to do worse when my intent is to please myself ;)

oh, and face it: LRA is pretty much dead, for good.

What I'm trying to say basically is have fun with MZX and everything else that you do (and I know full well that you do quite a bit of fun tinker-type stuff). If it's not fun or you're just getting frustrated over it, why continue? If you're hurting because you can't get along with members of the community, stuff 'em.

I've actually never fully canceled a project because I thought nobody liked it. I almost did once a couple years back when i felt people had lost interest in my project and at the same time I felt the community didn't like me as a person. But that's when i was much younger and emo and cared too much about what others thought.

I haven't actually completed many games but that's mostly because of one thing, ME, not everyone else. Either I get bored of the idea or just felt that it was no longer an important task in my schedule.

Now that I've become more mature, I've been focusing on completing my games with not too much care for what others think my main priorities should be but for what I think they are. I do this while at the same time taking in any relevant criticism that community has to offer that I think is constructive criticism. I ignore all the insults (though in my past i used to take them all in and react upon them getting myself into a hairy pickle each time.)

So basically... don't abandon a project if you think its lacking the interest of the community. MegaZeux is an outlet to express your creativity. Sometimes taking in some of the constructive criticism doesn't hurt though -- but sometimes it does. Its up to you to take from it what you think you could apply or subtract from your game.

EDIT:
I personally thought the letter system you created was very Retro EVEN though Lancer made a very good point (which mind you, is constructive criticism) about it being a system generally only used on hardware systems absent of a keyboard.

I'll be looking forward to your Ninja game! For I am created one of my own called Eight Shades of Evil which should be coming out sometime in 2050 since no big project of mine ever gets completed ;) BUT there's still hope for you! Wish you all the best!

I'm personally getting tired of coming on here just to see a bunch of people who obviously have way too much time on their hands undermining everybody. We don't all put out the same kind of games, we don't all like the same things, we don't all have the same skill level, so how about just giving some useful critisism, or better yet, encourage somebody and tell them how they can make it better, not why it sucks? And I'm not saying that everybody said he sucks, but there is alot of un-needed critisism going around lately.

I'm personally getting tired of coming on here just to see one particular user only showing up every god knows when to complain about the community without actively participating in said community. Hell, his last three posts (which took place over a month) were complaints! I know who's doing the undermining here, and it's definitely not us!

And, quite frankly, if you pick a recent journal or new game release at random, you'll see that it's exactly the opposite of what you think--the community LOVES heaping unnecessary, unwarranted praise upon people.

Czar Dragon giving his monologue, but this time, the outcome will be different. He comes accompanied with his own music.

These are pictures from the intro. The dragon took forever because I didn't want some cruddy tool doing the dragon for me, so I hand made it >:p

Here you can see more symbols, plus the earlier versions of the symbols.

The zodiac symbols are pointless at first, but you can equip people with zodiac based skill crystals as you obtain the people and crystals (the first complete pairs you get are Aries and Taurus). The gorey climax of the game is also related to these crystals and their dangerous properties- gathering all twelve in a single place causes very bad things :p

You got some crazy ASCII art skills; that dragon looks amazing! Keep up the good work!

Even if the dragon isn't "yours" you still did a great job with converting it and color coordinating it. I know what a daunting task that can be.
