This time, when it will be used in fullscreen, it could be used as REAL OS.
A bit.
It will feature some games, 9 fonts (as of today), some programs (calc most probably), wallpapers (0 as of today), help system (doubt), and DN-DOS (In beta it wouldn't have commands, and in RC it will be deleted. Not, wait, more like HIDDEN. Just like beta was like 98 and RC like WinME in that case)

Working on it...
...i dream MZXLogi with draw command could again run off a floppy...

BTW: I'm USING mzxlogi with draw command for it. First a GL version (EASIER), then a normal version (harder&crappier).
It is a engine game OS tool and or OS. Whatever.

it will MAYBE have a graphics viewer.... BMP viewer... made thanks to GL... and all that.

EDIT: Anybody willing to do a fullscreen game? GL is free to use. A game in a real OS is a MUST.

Then that would be a game in an OS in a game.

After that, you'd be obliged to make an OS in the second game, you know =)

Oh, for crying out loud. This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Good luck managing to get just ONE person to use this a lot when it's done. First of all, it's another crazy MZX OS, which nobody (or at least very, very few people) will use, and secondly, it's using Logicow's fork, which nobody cares about either. Really, Asiekierka, why do you do these things? Don't you get it yet?

Yeah, another MZX OS thing from the sounds of it. Its doomed to fail. You got told the first time you tried a MZX OS that its a terrible idea and they don't like it. And now it looks like your clearly ignored their advice =(

But on the other hand, we now have Robotic importing, meaning that robots (and hence programs) can be loaded off disk, so an OS proper is actually much more feasible than it used to be. Could be interesting.

There really isn't much point to it though. It isn't going to be exactly useful plus MZX is a GCS not a OSCS =|

I don't understand why you have to be so sour about this, Guy. If asie wants to make an OS then let him, and if you don't like it then you don't have to play it.

Me: Yes, i forgot, ZZT was for that.

CHEZZY, do you think Guy's saying things like that for the sole purpose of intimidation or ridicule? I think that Guy wants asiekierka to make more things that people enjoy.

ANYWAY, to make a halfway decent OS in MZX (or anything) you need a filesystem, so you either have to:

1) Read ISOs or something like that (I don't think asie wants to do this);
2) Have the user input each and every filename that they want the OS to use, other than files that weren't created or previously read by the OS;
3) Have no filesystem, and the user must remember the path of every file he wants to open (hlurp glaf splutter);
4) Uhhhh, slotted save system? ;_;

Asiekierka, casa frita, what's your plan?
Need a dispenser here.

5) Make a TXT with a directory&files list, which will be read-only at final. (RW at 2.0)
So far the easiest.
In future, i will learn IMG format (of WinImage) and add floppy support. Or ISO.
Or make sort of COMs that have no executing code, yet they have string with Robotic code. So we will make double hello world, that works in DOS, Windows, other COM-supporting OSes and DonnOS!
Huh.

Personally I think it'd be better for you to grab FreeBASIC for DOS (which generates 32-bit apps) and simply write a GUI that runs on top of FreeDOS. Definately would be more capable than this. :p

The main feature I think should be made for a MegaZeux OS but hasn't (not even in my NMOS)... is a TEXT EDITOR.

A text editor (even if it's a line editor, though I don't know how to use them because I was born in the age of WYSIWYG), graphics editor and module player. Coupled with a swap world command so if you get bored of wasting time in a MZX OS, then you can quickly load up a "real" game. (Airborne OS cited this as its main feature)

now *that* would make a MZX OS more useful...

Text editor - possible. (SmartRutter, you died or what?)
Graphics editor - possible. (Vlayer drawing commands.)
Module player - really possible. (MP3 decoder, anyone? heh i'm joking)
Swap world - 2 words. Duky's way. and 4 another. will make it possible. (Lol, saving .MZX file to temporary, loading world, and world at end will load temp MZX file)
I need a MZX-to-BMP robotic converter. It will have the 1 solid = 1 pixel rule. So, it will maybe save BMPs... 16-colour ones with CUSTOM palette will be ok.
Super breakout - ... Logi? Can i add this to DonnOS?
Calculator - ... okay. for you all guys.
Fonts - nine. and extra SMZX one. okay?
MZXPEOPLE: When done, will be included as add-on pack, okay, matt?
.BMP viewer: BMP-to-MZX, the same way, anyone?

1.5:
.GIF viewer: Wow.
.GIF editor: DOUBLE wow.
offline RSS reader: TRIPLE WOW.
More cursors: dot dot dot.
Fix more bugs: That was a joke, 1.0 will be bug-free already. I don't want to go the MS steps, giving a buggy version and asking users to wait for new Windows only for fixes and MORE GARBAGE.

2.0 (i don't think i will do it):
- FILESYSTEM: what the...
- MODIFIED MZX VERSION SPECIALLY FOR DONNOS: Will be used from 2.1.
- ZZT reader: for modified MZX version that will natively support .ZZT files and centipedes.
- .MHL: Megazeux HtmL. Doubt if will do it.
- Network .MZX downloader: That will be awesome awful.
- FREE 18+ stuff AOL DIALUP SCREWING UP CAVERNS.MZX.
Huh.

I hate to say it, asie, but I'm definitely considering releasing NMOS soon. It won't have a working GUI or anything, but, well... I don't know...

Well, of course it's my decision whether or not to download it, but the point here is that most people won't. We're just trying to help here; he's wasting his time making projects like this that people have warned him about time and time again when it could be better spent making something people enjoy, like a game.

How useful would a MZX OS be, anyway? None. There's nothing a MZX OS could do that real OSes haven't done before, and there's tons that a MZX OS can't do that real OSes can. It's a waste of time.

asiekierka should at least attempt an actual game. Making nothing but joke games and MZXOSes is stupid and doesn't follow the purpose for what MZX was made for.
