Well, I've started my first game kinda. So far I'm hard at work on the intro screens, and it's giving me time to figure out the programming aspects of it all.

The most time consuming part is graphics, as the programming can be pretty simple at times (though I may be taking complicated routes for simple tasks).

I'm still working on the title, but as any good writer will say... that will come in time. So for now I'll call my first project: "Project Alpha"

"Project Alpha" Current Progress:
Less than 1%

Description: Currently None

I'm bouncing back and forth between 2 game ideas, one set in ancient roman time... and one set in modern times. I like both, but have to crack down and only focus on one right now. I'm leaning toward the modern one for now, cause the other is destined for greatness and will take alot of time.

I don't plan "Project Alpha" to be the greatest game ever (it IS my first game after all), but I do plan to make it a good game with a serious point to it. I'll make my parodies and comedy games later, but I don't want to make the grand entrance into these lands with a bunch of humor that everyone might not get.

I'll keep the updates rolling on my projects, and as soon as I get some good work done... I'll get yall some screens of the type of art aspects to expect from me.

You've got the right idea here. The records show that comedy games, too early on, can be pretty... undesirable. And then everyone yells at something-or-other road for ever making that so-and-so series of games.
Need a dispenser here.

Well today I decided on the time setting of my first game and started work on the story and the character design. It's slow going, as it seems every time I draw a character in mzx I either don't like it in the end, or see that it dosn't work with the perspective.

On the bright side of it all, the setting of my game is in the early 1900's... though I gotta do some research on it to figure out exactly when I want it. The point is that do to the time settings, I have eliminated the need for color in my game and am going to do an all black and white (with shades in between) game. It will be pretty, in the black and white scale of things.

I'd go more in depth with my story ideas, but I've got to hammer some dings out. And as soon as I get the main character fully functional, I'll be postin' my first screenshot to make sure I'm up to par with the standards around here.

Sorry for the ramblings...
Cheers

Well here I go... my first piece of art to share with the community.

Posted Image

This is the first area you will be in... and the guy on the left is the player.

Just to clairfy the picture... the game is played in a full top-down perspective (much like the grand theft auto series before it went 3d). So what you are seeing is the sky view of the characters and surroundings.

All the art in this game is gonna take alot of character sets, and more likely fairly small areas (I'm still working on a way to optimize).

Either way... hope the picture is worth your look :(

All that can free itself from my gaping maw is "WOW". From what I see, will this game will be a sort of "futuristic zelda"?

You shouldn't make the space between the bricks the part that's lit up, because that doesn't make sense. Try inverting the walls. Otherwise, it looks good so far!

Depends on the clay material used for the bricks and for the mortar

But yes

Generally, yes. But it just doesn't look right. It's the bricks that should be emphasized, not the mortar.

I think it looks great with the bright in-betweens, it gives it it's own style. Go against the flow, you know? :(

It's generally not a good idea to go against the flow when the flow is better. And doesn't hurt your eyes to look at.

I'm still around and trying to get some good projects started up.
The previous project posted is on hold right now do to complications in story line (my brain died on trying to figure out a good story for it).

As of now I have 2 side scroll games that I'm working on that seem like they will be a bit easier to manage. Maybe sometime soon I'll post images of them, but as of right now I just don't have many assets to show off.

The style somewhat reminds me of Alcazar - The Forgotten Fortress for the Commodore which I liked to play quite a bit.
