The name's Kroven
Been messing around with ZZT and MZX for not too long. I actually got ZZT when I was like 13, but never really went anywhere with it. Megazeux came to me later, and I loved its functionality... but still never came up with anything for it (and only messed around lightly with it). But all in all, I can't run in here saying that I have used MZX for years.. all I can say is that I am a fan of it, and I'm learning it right now.
Been a gamer all my life... and with the first game drought of '07, I plucked up the ole' MZX to cure my boredom. I also dabble in digital music using a program called Reason.
I'm 21... goin' on 22 in May.
Bleh.. don't know where else to go from there... hopefully I'll contribute to the huge library of games in the near future.

anyways i'm a real fan of classic games like honor quest, darkness, cans and stuff like that. i can't say i enjoy the feel of some of the newer games with 28x14 block characters walking around with crazy animations and stuff. i was a pretty big graphics man in zzt but by that i mean making something nice-looking out of the default char sets, or slightly edited works too.

1. There's a free, full, and remade edition of ENGINE in the archives, as well as its sequel.
2. MZX isn't nearly as complicated as you make it out to be! Basically the vlayer is an invisible area of the game that can be accessed from any board by any robot and stores chars and colors via a coordinate system. Subroutines are labels you can come back from.
3. Hardly any real games use massive sprites or even sprites to begin with these days, so you can rest assured you won't have to make 28x14 char people do back-flips on ray-traced 3D mountaintops (unless you're Logicow).
4. Avoid cursing so much, because it gets annoying to a lot of people here.

And, if you don't like doing that, do what I did--stop using MZX and go make your games in C or something. =p

<Malwyn> Yes, yes. Don't worry I'd rather masturbate with broken glass than ask you for help again. :(

Klinger B Goode here, a serious MZX producer who is currently undertaking some very large projects.
You may remember me for my games HELLO MY NAME IS MISTER ATOMIC DEATH and its sequel, HELLO MY NAME IS MISTER ATOMIC SATIN DEATH, which both set the community's heart on fire in 2001.
Well weep no more, sleepy d. Because I'm Klinger B Goode. And the Klinger better B Goode!

"I'm a victim of circumstance!" - Curly
"I reject your reality and substitute my own." - Adam Savage
"Why don't you cry me a river, build a bridge, and get over it."
"I see you're drinking 1%, is that because you think you're fat?" - Napoleon Dynamite
"War is Groovy" - some violent hippie
I have about 30 unfinished mzx games, and I plan to keep it that way.

Just to clarify (before anybody starts groaning about the "friend" part), I don't actually know Robert in meatspace.
Serious damage to important body parts pretty much ruins any plans you had for living. Bummer.

I remember you and i completely understand why you'd hate the scene back then. I mean goddamn.
Also, second paragraph? TRUTH. Make us a game like that and you'll be the hero of the neighborhood. No one else has the balls to these days. Including me probably. But i haven't had much time to try, unfortunately. That'll change soon, but still!

<@Tixus> Anyway, I set the year to 1988 for some reason.
<@Tixus> And set the microwave to run for a minute and 28 seconds.
<@Tixus> But it failed to send me back in time, and I was disappointed.
<Insidious> Tixus accidentally microwaved the 80s
<Insidious> that is my takeaway from this
