I had to remove and readd the src/ folder to the XCode project, remove the mikmod files, set the modplug define, and comment MID, ABC, and PAT support out of modplug's sndfile.cpp

http://cables.whatis...43/Megazeux.dmg

EDIT: Er, it crashes on my box, but the crash appears to be in OSX's code, not MZX's.. so you might fare better, assuming you're on a real mac, which I'm not.

Two questions:
1. Just out of curiosity, why did you compile your own?
2. "Real mac"?

I don't know about the first question, but for the second he's running a hacked copy of OS X on his PC. :)

Yes, Quantum already did a build (and actually tested it in Rosetta). Please check out SVN to always get the latest macosx.zip.

Thanks.

The application in this disk image will not run.

Can you supply a link to Quantum's build?

Ah, yes. Where's quantum's build? I wouldn't have compiled my own if I had been able to find an up to date OSX build. Also I tested mine with rosetta too. It crashes in rosetta just as often as not in rosetta.

EDIT: Okay, compiling the latest source -tarball- with the SVN macosx.zip works.
SVN macosx.zip won't compile svn source, though
And I have no idea what the macosx.zip in the tarball is good for (why is it there?)

Megazeux 2.81g (.dmg, 2.3MB)
Current Xcode project files (macosx.zip, 43KB)

I just downloaded the source from SourceForge and discovered that the Xcode project files are out of date. Will someone who has access fix this?

That's obviously the case? When I release I can't automatically have updated macosx.zip files. SVN contains the version you last created, as expected.

To be honest, I'd SVN was kept up to date, but I'm kind of relying on other people to do that. SVN is totally open to anybody that wants to build it, and I encourage people to contribute to it.

Basically it just annoys me people are moaning about what support I'm trying to provide for OS X when I'm not maintaining that component. Xcode is entirely to blame, since it doesn't use GNU make. I think any effort that could be put into an Xcode GNU make package would pay off in the longer term. Googling this, it seems possible.

i offered the build on sourceforge for osx, apparently for the 2.82 version, to a friend, who is using OSX. he says when he clicks on the megazeux.app icon, nothing happens. i'm wondering if this is a known issue, or what? i linked him to the earlier build quantum p. put up above, and he's going to get back to me about that.

Which version of OS X? I remember ajs saying that only 10.4 and 10.5 (Tiger and Leopard) are expected to work.

No ideas unfortunately; it works fine on Intel/Leopard here and I can run the PPC version with Rosetta too.

I didn't get a Mac until recently, so I don't have a 10.3 DVD lying around.

Bumping this to share a new tidbit - QuantumP's build of MZX 2.81g is confirmed to work on my Power Macintosh G3 tower, 350 MHz with 512 MB of RAM and OSX 10.3.9. Perfectly, might I add. I haven't tested Logi's games on it yet but it seems to work pretty well so far.

So no, MZX does not require OS X 10.4.

Please try using the official universal binary for 2.82 posted in community announcements. This binary should work (and has already been tested) on OS 10.3. If it doesn't please let me know. The 10.3 incompatibility is old news and was fixed in the latest refresh of 2.82, back in July.

There are many unfixed bugs in these other, obsolete builds. I can't recommend using them unless you need an old version of MZX (which would be surprising). There are also many OS X specific enhancements in 2.82 such as icon branding.

I was unable to find the topic you mentioned. I'll look again, though...it would be nice to have links to such things from the main page so that people don't have to dig for them.

Thank you, Terryn, but this reinforces my previous point: upon further investigation, not only are there no non-Windows binaries on DMZX's MZX Versions page, there is also no link to the Sourceforge page from the main page. Perhaps we could add a link to the SF page not only on the front page sidebar, but also at the top of the Versions page with a message like "Can't find a version for your system/OS? Check the Sourceforge downloads page for more."

All the information you requested, including information about the refresh (documenting the 10.3 fixes), is included in the thread I mentioned on the Community News forum, post "MegaZeux 2.82". This is not difficult to find as I found it myself before responding to your post.

Perhaps an easy fix would be to pin Community News about MZX itself.
