I just got Knytt Stories, so although its giving me some extra inspiration its really addictive too. I'll get this done before I get really immersed though.
Just finished a castle.

Finally, after a long long search, it was right there in front of me. I'm going to use the ambiance from the Knytt stories ambiance library, it fits perfectly and its free to use (since its for the editor).

I have a question, and it probably has been answered before, but oh well. I need to know how to use fwrite and fread, in a situation where you unlock something when you finish the game, and it's there to play when you start the game again. For example an unlockable secret level.
An example of the code would be appreciated.

I'm sure this has been done before but I'll make a quick rundown of the file IO functions.
1. set "filename" "fread_open"
2. set "filename" "fwrite_open"
3. set "filename" "fwrite_modify"
4. set "filename" "fwrite_append"
these 4 will open "filename" in 4 different ways:
1. open file for reading
2. open file for writing, creating a file if it doesn't exist and blanking any file that does exist.
3. open a file for writing but doesn't blank the file. anything written will overwrite the data at that spot.
4. like fwrite_modify but sets the write pointer to the end of the file.
when you're done with a file, you use these same commands but where filename was you put nothing for example:
set "" "fread_open"
will close the file. It is a very good idea to close files when you are done with them!
reading and writing is simple:
to read you can do like this
set "counter" "fread" will take 1 byte and place it's value in to counter and automatically advances the read pointer by 1 byte.
writing is like this:
set "fwrite" 123 will place a byte with the value 123 in to the file where the writing pointer is at and advance it by 1 byte
set "fwrite" "counter" will place 'counter' in the file where write pointer is at and advance it 1 byte
writes are done byte by byte so if you give it a value greater than 255, the more significant bytes will be chopped off, just be safe and make sure you don't write values larger than 255 unless that is absolutely what you want.
This is just basic stuff as there is some more that I probably forgot like string reading and writing but I'm not 100% sure what's working with that (i heard something is broken regarding that feature.).

You can use FWRITE_COUNTER and FREAD_COUNTER to take in two bytes at a time, as an alternative. Also, set "$string" to "FWRITEn" is all that's broken in 2.81g, regarding file access. (The SVN version has that fixed.) The other big problem with file access was fixed for g.
An important thing you neglected to mention is that you can only open a specific file for reading or writing, not both at the same time.

Sorry it's taking so long, I have been procrastinating a bit. A lot actually. What should have taken me one night has taken me 2 weeks.
Hopefully get it out to you soon.
