The option to browse MZX games by author. Maybe its already been suggested; I haven't read through this whole thread.

That would take some interesting doing in terms of interface. Here's a suggestion: Make a single link to a page which contains a list of every author listed, preferably in alphabetical order. Each author's name then links to their collected words on DMZX. It wouldn't take much effort, and it seems to me the most logical way to interface it.

I have a better idea, make a new SQL database, cataloging all the games, and keywords. These keywords can include but are not limited to, the title of the game the author themes etc. Then add an interface where you can input a number of keywords with boolean operators that can be used to preform a query on the database and give you the games that meet your search.

It'd take some doing, but it'd make it that much easier to look for a game who's name you cannot remember.

Virtually every game already has an author link to the correct user account. I fail to see why it would be hard to do an SQL query for every game with the same author name as the selected user (in the profile, perhaps? Or just a filtering option on the games page).

How about an "Essential Pack" for newbies to download with a few great games like Bernard the bard and others plus it has certain developers tools like Megazeux encyclopedia and 2993 engines. It would be really useful to get newbies into megazeux quickly.

Yeah... somehting like that may be a good idea. Something with examples of good games and better utilities for people who are new to MZXing.

Edit: Well... i guess it doesn't have to go on the front page, but it's a thought.

I like that idea as well. I mean, there are quite a few games in the archive and a great number of them, quite frankly, aren't very good. The best ones should be taken and packaged together. "Best of MegaZeux" pack, perhaps?

Try to put all genres of mzx games into it. Btb, ascii robowars and cans are all good candidates. Also put new games into it, like loco and LoR.

Better yet, if you could just tag particularly excellent things with a "superstar", suggesting they transcend the star ratings given by the masses, and then prominently link to a page that lists them, that would be good. You could call them "spotlight games", and even have more than two of these "spotlight games"

How about a page, with the most popular MZX games ever, as voted by the users, and every month the GOTM is added to the list?

Thats actually a very good idea, but I think there should be a button called "the best" or something, just below the starting letters list, which shows all the 4 and 5 rated games.

Preparation:
1) Someone makes two images, both the same size as the 5-star rating image. One of these is for "superstar" games and another is for "junk" games.

2) These shall become the images for the "hidden" ratings 0 and 6, which should be easy enough since the images are probably stored as star1.x, star2.x, etc.

3) Someone (Lancer-X) makes sure that reviews for a game with a rating of 0 or 6 can be posted but don't affect the total score.

Decision process:
1) Someone nominates a game for one of these categories using a thread in a section of the board that does not show up in New Posts.

2) By a poll, we determine if a game fits into one of these after a certain time or number of votes have been reached,

3) and then Lancer-X or whoever changes the ratings entry for that game to 0 or 6 if the game is found to be junk or a superstar, respectively.

Problems with this are:
- People could SOMEHOW VOTE WRONG because, really, when does that not happen?
- Uhhh, Lancer-X or whoever might not want to
- There are a lot of games
Need a dispenser here.

I personally love what youtube has recently done and I think we should use it as our model. They now have a comment rating so that you can hide terrible comments or show the best comments. We should do this for the games themselves perhaps?

We're not a large enough site to warrant that - if a game review is just terrible, then that's usually the point at which an admin would need to take it down.

What about a search for games with X amount of stars, out of 5?

Shouldn't be too hard since we already have the rating system enabled.

We had said functionality on zeuxworld, and the implementation was pretty easy. I don't know how the game and/or review DB's are set up, but I imagine it wouldn't be much work.

Yes, I can imagine us doing something like this, writing a query to sort by review score should be relatively easy. I think the way I'd like to do this is have the column headings in the search results be clickable, so that you can sort ascending/descending by author, title, size, and review average within a search set. I'd also sort of like options for more advanced searching, but I'm not sure how much it really matters to be able to search on more than one field at a time, right now.

EDIT: Okay, I think I'm done. Go test it and try to SQL inject it.
