How compatible are Mzx and MzxAK?  Is the compatibility both ways?  What are the advantages to AK?

Mzxak = mzxs3.1  Compatibility's fine, I think mzxak2 also works fine.  The only thing is that mzxs3.1 won't recognise the mzxakversion counter, and therefore will not recognise mzxak's features.

Would it be better to go with Mzx3.1 or MzxAk ????

That would be Megazeux S 3.1, the S standing for spider version. ?As to s3 vs AK, the file writing capabilities in MZXak are kinda risky in my opinion. ?They're not necessary, and they open the door for sabotage of your computer through the games you might download and play.

Try checking the main page.

There's an S3.2 out too, I suppose, but I haven't fiddled with that one at all.  Like I said, try checking the main page.  And yes, in my opinion S3 is better because it's safer.

Believe me, they are necessary when it comes down to making epic RPGs.  Selective counter loading is a boon.  Also, a different type of savefile can be generated with I/O options.  Why bother?  It's better aesthetically and you can also FORCE a save or a load. =P

You're right about it being risky, of course.  You can filll up someone's HD with junk or break anything in the MZX directory with I/O as it stands now.  MZX 2.6 will fix this.

You can load up MZXs3.x files in MZXAk and run them perfectly.  You can run MZXAk files in MZXs3.x, but they aren't going to necessarily work.  I personally hate this forward capability, but I got flamed the last time I complained, so I guess this practice will stand. =/

2.51s3.2 and 2.51 have MAJOR differences. First of all, the counter limit of 50 or something in 2.51 is now raised to over a thousand. The MOD* thing was added (it keeps whatever MOD was being played on the previously entered board to keep playing, no matter what board/MOD it was). Bugs were fixed. Uh... and a lot more. I can't really think of all of them because I haven't used 2.51 in ages.

AK2 has the most features. The only things about that make it worse is the fact that it takes more memory and it's POSSIBLE to make something in a MegaZeux game in MZXAK2 that can ruin files on your system. But really, who in their right mind would do something like that? At least it probably wouldn't be disguised very well, since anyone that actually tries to make a decent game most likely wouldn't make it kill your computer when you're done.

When's 2.6 or whatever coming out? Didn't he say it was going to be released just the week after Akwende released AK2? Then again, Akwende said he would release it just a month after he left and it took all that time.

It just seems to me that some will choose one and some swill choose the other and since they're not compatible - there'll be a problem.

2.6 will have most of the AK features plus some, I believe, so I don't think much of a division will arrise.

Eh... I'm starting to think that 2.51 was the best now. I mean, it by far isn't the most powerful, but I think it's better for actually making games. I think I might revert back, if I start trying to make MegaZeux games again. Right now I'm busy in ZZT, making a new version with more features and all...

If you're worried about the file writing in Ak, but you prefer using it to make games, couldn't you just play games with s3.1 and make games using Ak?

I've elected to keep my progress in MZX S3.1, despite how much I wanted the overlay detection.

Yay!  After some testing, I have found out that MZX2.6 is compatible with: MZXak, MZXak2, MZX S3.1, MZX S3.2

No attempt at compatibility has been made with earlier versions of mzx.  Most of the features don't work, but the worlds can be loaded (YAY!  No more messages of "This world is from a better version of mzx" or whatever they said...

MZX 2.6 is totally compatable with MZXAk2? Okay.. The world format itself hasn't changed since s2, so naturally that in and of itself won't stop you from playing things.
