That does look a lot better. I like your use of diagonal chars on the tops of the walls. This style allows for a lot more variety if you want to change the place up from time to time. All in all, looking good, while still maintaining that trippy look of weird character usage in certain parts.

Finally came up with a reasonable damage formula for the enemies. Should have done that ages ago, but now it's finally done at least.

Heh, the last thing I did before shipping the Kikan beta out was adjusting and tinkering with the battle damage formula :)

Absolutely awesome, as usual.

Is Hobo Dan in this? ;P

Will there be a BASIC emulator? Or a BASIC interpreter? Or an Es-Basic one?
Huh.

I wish that my games had neat graphics like that. I never like my graphical style much.

I like the subworld shot but that internet cafe shot is kind of loud (holy shit! ORANGE!)

Maybe it's the fact that it's paired with an olive color.

Looks truly awesome...now you've got to finish this, Es! I like the trippy looks & colours of the screenshots. "Simple" yet extremely original.

A fake one, yeah. You don't actually see any code but the party can use programs (treated like items, basically) to do different stuff.

Some groundwork for WORLD 3, Rainy World. It's a low-lying area prone to annual flooding; residents build houses on hilltops here where beach grass has helped prevent soil erosion.

Edit: Tixus is going to be mad as hell because the last idea for this world was all dark and stormy

You should change the background of the playercolor char. Other then that, the islands and buildings look nice, mostly because of the perspective on the buildings =)

Zoe Awesome now has 12 enemies and a system for placing them on the board and managing their code (the code is stored in one place, and loaded from text files as needed.)

As it currently stands, Zoe will be visiting four WORLDS - Autumn, Rainy, Snowy, and Farm - in addition to the SUBWORLDS that connect them. (There might be a fifth one, I'm not sure if it's needed yet though.) The first world is close to being ready!

Farm World would make an epic last area! Fight you're way through crazy farmers, rabid cows, demented chickens, and evil scientist pigs!

I think I'm going to have everything in the snowy world take place in a giant shopping mall. I've always liked the idea of a gigantic mall, for some dumb reason or another. Interpret that as you will.

Like Click-Clock-Wood in Banjo-Kazooie, minus the giant tree, and I see you've replaced summer with farm.
<Nadir> mzxers don't make GAMES, usually
<phthalocyanine> they make experiences.
<Nadir> demos, more like
<Nadir> a glimpse into what could have been if mzx wasn't such a bore to work with
<Nadir> actually, i'm being unfair
<Nadir> i would have made mzx games if it was capable of running on more than 20 computers worldwide in 1998
<Nadir> >:D

<%Alice> functor
<%nooodl> i hear C++ has a thing called functors and they're completely different from Haskell functors...
<rorirover> the result is the most horrid thing in C++, it's basically black magic and it transforms any code you're writing into some eldritch monstrosity

I've been spending my time glueing the main parts of the gameplay together. Zoe can now run the whole cycle of killing enemies, getting money, spending it on food/drinks/equipment, getting more powerful, and repeating.

Also I should say that Farm World as I picture it is different than you guys are picturing it - less demented barnyard animals and more wide open areas with corn to hide in and laser obstacles, because you're searching for the booby-trapped country residence of an old engineer who's got something you need...

Okay, maybe I'll throw in some demented barnyard animals.

There'd better be missile-launching cows.
Blaugh!
Serious damage to important body parts pretty much ruins any plans you had for living. Bummer.

Even if they are docile pigs just wearing a bullet belt or a combat helmet! It does not matter how you implement them as long as there are WAR PIGS
