It's pretty much impossible to take an even passably decent picture with my phone, even after trying to get acceptable lighting conditions and making many, many attempts (I had one otherwise better picture but of course the phone decided to crap all over it by making it all blurry and artifacted, even more than this one)

It's kinda hard to get good results with a cell phone. Some of them have ways of changing the white balance. Mine has it under "lighting conditions," but your mileage may vary. If your phone has it, try setting it to one of the manual settings, it'll probably give you better results (that said, I need to start using it on mine -- the pictures I take with my phone tend to lean towards the cool side).
