Probably should write your own engine instead of just outright taking adlo's. Why waste the opportunity to learn here? If you need assistance just ask, plenty of people will help you to get your side scrolling engine clean and fully featured, the added perk being what you learn there can be applied to the rest of your game.

Sounds like a good reason to try and build your own, that way you can make it do exactly what you need.

The Eclipse II is colored jet black and this is the closest color I could use. I don't want the Eclipse IIa looking like a annoying starship with all the walls invisible.

Well I don't know how to make a side-scroller engine that lets you jump in mid-air after walking right off an edge.

Then MZXMoogle would be saying that I use too many explosions.

Easiest way is probably set a counter to 1 whenever the player comes into contact with the ground, then instead of having the jump function check if there is ground under the player, just have it check if that counter is 1, if so jump and set the counter to zero (where it stays until the player comes back into contact with the ground) if it's already in the zero state, that means a jump has already been performed since last touching the ground, and so do not allow an additional jump.

If you need further explanation (say on the very basics of a side scrolling engine) let me or some one know.

Easily solved by having the engine continuously locking the player over and over. Risu's right though, you should make your own. Once you know how it works its not really hard to make.

Graphics could do with a little work... but many explosions is always a good thing.

As Risu2112 has already mentioned... just ask. We are a bunch of people packed with not always useless information in our skulls.

BUUUURN BABY BURN
DISCO INFERNOOOOOOO!!!
BUUUURN BABY BURN
BURN THE MOTHER DO-
Um...

The way I do my sidescroller engine (only 10-ish lines!) is by setting a counter to, let's say, 5, if there's ground beneath the player. While the player holds up, the counter decreases by 1, until the counter reaches 0, in which case it ignores the check if up is pressed.
Yes, my engine does screw up when someone presses F7. My advice: press F11 instead, and change the necessary counters.

Anyways, here's the 10-ish lines:
lockplayer ns
: "o"
set "player_gravity" 5
wait 1
: "l"
if "player_gravity" <= 0 "s"
if uppressed "j"
: "s"
rel player
if blocked south "o"
move player south
goto "l"
: "j"
move player north
dec "player_gravity" 1
goto "l"

OK, so 16 lines. Whatever. Once you've learnt the method, you'll be able to punch in a simple sidescroller engine at any BKZX in a matter of, let's say, 5 minutes.

Just move "lockplayer NS" so that it's inside the main loop, and the player is relocked every cycle.

F7 breaks those engines because it unlocks the player, if you just reset the lock every cycle the problem is solved, Not that I really think it's a huge issue to begin with :p

You know, if F7 breaks your game, I don't consider that a huge issue.

Why? Because I don't really use F7 and don't think it should be used by anyone. I don't really see why anyone should even feel the need to use F7 to beat most any MZX game.

But if you really want to protect for it, I guess Ohki's method would work okay.
