Cool

does it have 8-directional movement

I've never really had any luck at making random or algorithmic room generation work too well. :-D

<Malwyn> Yes, yes. Don't worry I'd rather masturbate with broken glass than ask you for help again. :(

I'm kind of afraid that Cavern of the Avians will look like a huge ripoff of Maxim's games + Bombin' Dude + this + whatever else comes out soon (since it's pretty much Classic Shooting + 8 Dir Movement + Random Generated Levels) even though I started it back in January. The worst (best?) part of this is that my CJA-themed boss, which throws bombs, will come off looking like some sort of Bombin' Dude parody. I guess sprite bosses and optional one-handed control configurations are CotA's only pluses. :u

Good luck with this game, Nooodl!

Also, there's already an MZX game whose acronym is CotA.

Keep up the good work nooodl :B

Man, Castle of the Aardvarks was a cool game... wish we would've gotten Bee Fly Ptarmigan's Picross

Right-- here's the deal. I'm releasing this game as a public beta version for now: it's finished, but might have some bugs. Go download it, play it, and tell me what you don't like; more importantly, tell me what you do like, because punctuating the negative isn't fun for either of us. Just a simple "this game was pretty fun!" is good enough to make my day.

Err, there are secret passages on certain levels that you don't get warnings about: this is to encourage you to explore entire levels thoroughly. Also, if you see the stairs to the next level embedded in a wall or something, don't worry! There are 3 exits on each level, you should usually be able to reach 2 of them.

And as a final word: Have fun playing this game. It's why I made it. Don't give up too fast! :)

(PS: you get a huge bonus and lots of my kudos if you can beat the game without using ammo - yes, the boss is possible)

How about, instead of a randomly generated classic megazeux game, you make a randomly generated good game?

Pros: Good, safe chiptunes. Also, the ascii graphics are cute in a zzt sort of way and the level generation isn't too slow.
Cons: Overused chiptunes, ugly level generation, and classic gameplay really only works with brilliantly designed levels.

Level 20 didn't fade in for me.

Otherwise, this game held my attention, at least. You should have some sort of cooling mechanism on hot levels.

I actually disagree - I found the waiting seriously painful while testing. Well, if you like it, that's great with me.

Overused chiptunes,

Yeah - my internet connection was down during music selection so I had to go with music from other games, hoping nobody would notice. It sounds like the lamest excuse one can think of, but you might have to accept it as the truth! (It is.)

sheesh i've been messing around with level generation for ages and then this, but yeah, I kinda agree.

Thanks for your criticism-- However, I think when I get more criticism like this (that is, mostly negative about gameplay) I may or may not change the entire game.
