Here's an awesome MAD for Cross Channel.

everyone that is experienced at using (or, especially, creating) a certain item will invariably call out the most popular items in that field as overrated

actually that was just a dig at commodorejohn, referencing the 'ITT Overrated Shit' threads that russian bot was spamming on /jp/ using the Fate/stay Night title screen as the image. FSN isn't overrated (or maybe it is) but either way I don't generally give a shit if something's overrated are not. What matters is whether the game in question is any good or not - not whether you think it is worthy of the praise it gets. Bashing something for being overrated is just whining/spite, really - not legitimate criticism.

oh, and I guess I'm playing Mugen Kairou 2 at the moment. great game, not everyone's cup of tea though

Scribblenauts. Any game that lets you put God and Satan in giant mechs and let them launch missiles at each other has to be good!

Just beat Lunar: Eternal Blue Complete, now to start on Valkyria Chronicles.

Also playing Valkyrie Profile DS, which is really fun, apart from insane spikes in difficulty at certain parts... but I guess it wouldn't be a VP game without those

Scribblenauts is still being played, but I also finally broke out the copy of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne that I picked up for $30. God bless you, Atlus, for finally reprinting the SMT series! (And god damn you for not doing the same for the REST of your properties!)

PERSONA 3 FES

This game better be good.

Also, this artist reminds me of the one from Trauma Center New Blood. (The first DS sequel.)

Persona 3 FES is not really up my street. I love exploring the dungeon but I hate hate hate the actual day-to-day crap you have to do. This game is but Etrian Odyssey, thankfully less difficult, but with an annoying social system hanging over it. If I wanted to meet friends, I would do so in real life. Tons more exciting than hanging out with imaginary people (this seems to be the most outstanding point that critics of this game bring up: "going clubbing with imaginary Japanese friends"). I'll probably play it for a while, but...

I agree with your sentiment. That's probably the only reason I could stand Saya no Uta, because the day-to-day stuff was just there as an example of what the 'protagonist' has to put up with.

I must be the only one here who liked the daily life part of Persona 3...because they at least offered you additional story about the characters that aren't fighting alongside you in the dungeons.

Descent 3 was handled by the other half of Parallax Software - they had split into two separate companies at that point, Volition and Outrage. Volition was busy with the Freespace games while Outrage handled D3.

It's actually not bad, it's just really different from the first two Descents - it's the Half-Life to the first and second games' Doom and Quake, respectively, in that there's more in-game plot, actual mission objectives instead of destroying the reactor in every level, and also the ability to fly on the planet surface instead of being confined to the mines all the time.

hideo kojima's epic tale of political intrigue, questionable alliances, and the mystery of one man's past. also the only game where you're forced to play as someone other than the main character and where you have a boss battle where a drunken fat man runs you over on roller skates. srsly.

also i never got into descent 3 just because it was so different. i found targeting to be much more difficult in the newer engine.

is it true that MGS 2 is the one actually good MGS game?

if so i'm going to have to work out some way of playing it at some stage*, because I played Psychonauts (a playstation VN by the same designer, Kojima) and it was prime stuff

*seems MGS2S has a PC port so that's probably how I'd do it, unless i'm convinced the port is such as bastardisation i'd be better off emulating the PS2 one instead

It's more of the same in terms of MGS games; just you can cartwheel and hang from ledges now, and aiming is improved.

The PC port is just plain shit. It was designed in a day of weaker video cards, intended for a future card that didn't exist yet, and now that said hardware is actually on the market, it can't run it because of backward compatibility issues. Better to emulate it.

MGS2's story is either a work of genius or the most pretentious bullshit ever, depending on your standpoint. It's certainly much farther "out there" than the first game's, and Kojima's habits of having a single character deliver 20 minutes of exposition in one go is pretty consistent here.

I, personally, loved it, but overall I prefer MGS3, because not only does it play better, it also has a more cohesive story.
Blaugh!
Serious damage to important body parts pretty much ruins any plans you had for living. Bummer.

MGS3 has the best story though I sorta liked MGS1's and 2's gameplay better for some reason. MGS3 had some great moments though (Fighting The End, the ending...)

Now I feel like playing it again =/
