mossy corridors! grey stone!

(frustrations in making the graphics i want to make using megazeux!)

anyway yeah did another floor strata's worth of graphics last night, here's some shots.

decided to make this floor type the first 5 floors, with the next 5 being the orange brick i've shown off in previous shots. need to tweak the viewport size, but i eliminated the border around the dungeon view and i think it looks better for it

give me some ideas for more wall types!

fuck imageshack, srsly, who the hell even uses this anymore

question: does anyone know how to compensate for the change in color values when going to an lcd screen or whatever. i mean these colors are a hell of a lot less bright (god that blue on this lcd screen at the computer lab agh) on my CRT. it's annoying to think i've got the color values just perfect only to see it looks like crap on another monitor!

or, is this a common problem in development?

It's a common problem everywhere! The trick is to pay 1000000000000000 dollars for an accurate monitor and a little sensor you stick to it that tells you how to calibrate it.

Or, like the vast majority of human beings, and virtually everyone in the MegaZeux community, you could ignore the problem. Just about any LCD monitor will probably be brighter and more accurate than the average CRT that's been sitting around in a closet for twelve years. So if you can get at an LCD, develop with that.

finished out the third area's graphics! had to eliminate the phantasy star style rotation because i simply ran out of graphical real-estate (256 IBM char set - text mode hooray) but i just can't have the level of graphical detail i want and keep the rotation. ah well! kill your babies.

here's some samples of graphics for the third strata:

new exploration gui, i think it looks a lot cleaner

Just a thought... for the rotation, couldn't you export a bunch of generic "side wall" characters in a set, then dynamically export your current set, then just start overlapping the two by rewriting the characters one by one using a partial import?

Maybe I'm just crazy. Probably that.

Also, this looks great. I will say that the bottom piece of the screen looks emptyish now -- are you putting anything in there over the long run? Maybe dropping the UI a little would alleviate this?

I'm assuming the text box will go there for in-game messages.

3D First Persons in MegaZeux take me far too long to code, so its something I probably could never do. It looks fantastic and can't wait to see how it plays!

Mr. Collier, this game looks great, the moss adds a nice touch to the gloomy athmosphere I sense in the screenshots. The new gui does indeed look better.

I suppose you are already using or planning to use a lot of sound effects in this game - can't wait to see what the entire pack looks, plays and sounds like.

Just curious, how are the character creation and battles issues going to be carried through?

Could you keep the rotation if you made the text and/or the meters disappear temporarily, using those characters?

I can see that becoming annoying quickly.

Yeah, you're probably right. The screens look good enough on their own.

battle system is a dragon quest style first person battle. character creation is pretty simple, you can choose male or female, and a beginning "class" that determines starting stats. party members are picked up throughout the game during different scripted events.

lancer :(

glad to see you're still around!

and yeah bonnie, this isn't in megazeux anymore, though it started out as an mzx project. just thought i'd update ya'll after several years hiatus.

i'll have more to actually show in a few months, there's a working engine and other stuff but it's still all fragmentary.

Apol! How's it going, man? Been a while...

And the game looks great, really vivid and attractive pixel art. Reminds me of something you'd see on Japanese PCs in the early 90's.

The art looks intriguing. I would love to play it when it is released. Will you upload to itch.io? have you considered Steam greenlight?
Currently working on Servo for MegaZeux, I hope to complete it by the middle of 2015? Who knows...

it's going well! thanks, that's EXACTLY the aesthetic i'm going for, should've known you'd recognize it right off the bat! really going for that PC-88/98 type feel. my composer is even using a PC-88 style sound for the music. he's a big ryo yonemitsu fan and it shows in the music.

steam greenlight is definitely going to be one of the avenues. we're possibly going to be looking for a publisher. i also want it to be release on PSN, but we'll see. still lots of work to do before these are a possiblity!
