Well, that's something that was not obvious to me, I just thought it was an unwarranted attack on a new guy. Didn't have anything that pointed to that.

I am an old old timer that used to go by Owcp and ZZTDude in the old days. And then WeirdMan on the early IRC channel days. I made a lot of crappy games and the much hated #MegaZeux Adventure game for ZZT. Anybody still around from that era that remembers me?

I'm A-Guymzx*. I'm 13 years old , a rather big Anime fan and incredibly lazy. I like to play Roblox (a lego-based game making program/community), make (mostly practice) my own manga/anime, and sleep during school, cuz i don't feel like sleeping before 2 am. My dream is to make an animation company and community with it. Why?
I'm also learning Japanese and making AMV's on youtube in my spare time. Other then that, i just check my inboxes over and over to pass the time.

I used to play Megazeux games when I was younger, and recently I realized that it was an awesome gaming experience and would like to get back into it.
I'm glad there's still a community. But I'm having trouble finding an archive of games, and I'm afraid I don't quite have the patience to download them one by one... well, I would like to get the good ones somehow.. anyone have any suggestions? I saw something about getting some via MIRC?
Anyway, hope we all have a good time megazeuxing and whatnot.

Thanks. Yeah, I found the vault. There's so many games though. It'd be very useful to have a torrent or something of all the games available at this time. For now I'll download the top rated ones and the ones people recommend. I'm not sure yet what I'll do for the rest, but I plan on trying out a lot in June.

Holy shit, I remember you... of course from Dustin's DQ Page, and from your MZX/IRC days... I remember the Dragon Quest game too, had some really nice graphics IIRC. Unfortunately I don't still have it, but we have some pretty awesome archivists on here... perhaps Spectere or someone else has this game sitting on some hard drive somewhere?

I am ZeuxWarrior. Some of you may know me as CaRmAgE around other places on the Internet. I am 22 and have been using Megazeux since v2.51. I usually don't join forums of any sort, but I began to run into a few problems with the newer Robotic features, so I might pop in from time to time with some questions.

I've been putting off this intro post. Those of you oldbies who are left may not remember me fondly. Newbies (which, to me, is most of you) may know me from throwing me at people in the Cans series. I never finished or released a game in ZZT or MZX, although I threw together a few boards here and there for projects that never had much of a shot, in hindsight. I was also obnoxious, even for a small child, and that "first wave" of MZXers were not much older, but just old enough to get interested in cliques and exclusion. djtiesto is also familiar with this phenomenon, as are, I'm sure, a few others. Unlike djtiesto, I was an Aspie scatterbrain with no motivation, spiraling into the depths of delusion thanks to the impulse toward cognitive rigidity, isolation and withdrawal, not to mention the impact of familial abuse. By the time I woke up to the nature of my brain and its difference from others, I had bombed out of college, alienated many friends, and caused most of the others to lose interest. Now I am picking up the pieces, undoing the years of damage to relationships and my mind. Thankfully my diagnosis came with an IQ test and it turns out I have certain mental gifts, which I long suspected, but never showed off.
My greatest contributions to the MZX community were securing an FTP site called "cloud" that became a widely-linked repository for MZX and ZZT games as well as other free games and my interviews with any MZXers who would oblige me. It's all gone now, I'm pretty damn sure, but it was a rare stable link in the days before the Vault.
Rediscovering MZX this week was accidental. I'm not sure how it started, but I think I stumbled upon the diy gamer zine interview with SnigWich and it released memories of old community, identity and creativity. It spurred me on to open an IRC client and reconnect with the community as I knew it, and maybe meet some new people bringing fresh (to me) perspectives to the GCS I knew and loved. Or, at least, loved. I have been lucky to meet many such people. Don't ever take this community for granted! There are minds here which would put any to shame, and the things you cats have done with that old, kludgy, limited, keyboard-only GCS have blown me away. Examples need scarcely be mentioned, but I should point out that perhaps the incredible energy of this community's core is less visible to those of you who have been in it continuously. For me, walking back into it after so long away, I see drive, hustle and an optimistic problem-solving attitude prevailing. The feel of this community is very different from the old vaporware days. As, I suppose, it should be: inmate and some of you who have stuck around are hovering around 30, and that trips me right the hell out.
I stumbled into the wrong IRC network--I hadn't been on IRC since at least Bush 2's reelection--and found Exophase there, where I asked him for directions. He followed me into #mzx and I was glad to see him welcomed back as well. Maybe it sounds cheesy, but being around the creativity and DIY spirit of this group has flared up my passion for expression, although I won't make the same mistake twice by promising this expression will take the form of completed/released MZX games.
I have been pleasantly surprised at my reception on IRC, though again, given that everyone has grown older, perhaps I shouldn't be. In the old days, I always came back to the channel even after many bans (mods were pretty capricious and I was pretty annoying). Despite the teasing and low-level bullying I experienced as part of my youthful MZX experience, I also felt that this community was in rarefied air in terms of its acceptance of diverse ways of thinking and being. We often joked that we were "crazy", "mental", "out of our minds", but now I think we were puzzling out these words that dominant society told us we were (or must be). In our creations, and in each other, we found our individualism and humanity under these labels and pushed it to the surface, replacing guilt with pride and shame with resolve. It was no coincidence, again, that I learned about zines here, and learned about the drug war, and learned about what transgender people need from their friends and communities. I still see people expressing their very idiosyncratic perspectives through their creations here, and for many, this has extended outside of the interpreter to tie Robotics in with other sites of digital life. I suspect something fundamental about the MZX and 'pre-MZX'* community, or perhaps ZZT and MZX themselves, has had a humanizing effect on many of us whose cognitive, affective and intellectual differences from others push us close to a dark path. I have vague thoughts of exploring this concept with others in the community, maybe producing something similar to cly5e's ZZT interviews (which are a great blast from the past if you remember the originals).
* To distinguish this group from the surprisingly distinct group of ZZTers who replaced us after we all migrated to MZX for good.
//
Anyway, hi again to those of you I haven't seen in a long time, and hi to those who don't know me. It's good to be back among friends.
I have only read the first and last pages of this thread so far, but hey there WeirdMan, since you asked, I totally remember you. (but not your games--eep! I don't have much memory for ZZT/MZX games, beyond the super famous ones.)
