I'm making something. I always hated the fact that I never finished Band! 7, because that game was rad, especially the parts you never saw and which are now lost forever. So I'm making another platformer--in the same vein, only bigger, better, and stronger. I've attached a small engine demonstration but don't download it because there's nothing there really.

The project is codenamed BAND 2010, because it's in the same spirit as Band! 3/4/7.

i see you all took my advice and didn't download that

THIS THOUGH i do need you to try out. There is shooting and particle effects. You will see the FPS displayed in the lower left-hand corner. I need various people to try this and report any abnormalities in the framerate (it should hover around 60) as you do various things. Thank you !

More updates to the system, featuring: Water, enemies, advanced platforming concepts. I'll be honest, I'm only really hosting these demos here because where the heck else, man? Here's a screenshot! This isn't actually a level or anything, just a testing board.

The past few days have been nothing but working on the engine. At this point I have very nearly recreated most of the BAND! 7 engine, which is where I'm aiming to start from. The game is my inspiration, you see. I never finished it, and at this point I can't considering all the material I lost when I reformatted my hard drive ages ago. Instead, I can do something better. I can one-up Band 7. The new engine is smaller, faster, more efficient, and lemony-fresh.

I still haven't come up with any sort of plot or game outline though

Ironing out more kinks in the engine, working on a possible first level design to give it a real test run.

I have a system in place now to synchronize the required robots for a level across every stage. That way it won't be a sloppy mess like it was in previous BAND! games.

I standardized a portion of the palette to make the UI identical across all levels, and to allow me to have custom palettes for each level. The results are quite nice.

the 'BAND!' is good, the rest is poorly placed and sdfhjksdhfk, redo it

(actually, probably just moving the numbers closer together would do. you don't need to fill entire screen, a bit of space is okay)

I finished the ATMOS BEAM, as well as the GHOST RAY, neither of which were featured in the demo due to not existing. The ATMOS BEAM is kind of like that weapon from Defender. The GHOST RAY is a slightly weaker version that GOES THROUGH WALLS! WICKED!!

Needs more explosives. Also, a hook shot/grappling hook kind of thing.

In all seriousness, it does look like you need more enemy variety. Bats and dudes that shoot can only get you so far.

Did you play the demo? I guess there's not too much variety in that, but there's actually a great depth of different enemies in the current version. Boggart Butte on its own introduces three unique enemies.

I have bats, guys that shoot, guys that shoot in more directions, ghosts that teleport, zombies that crawl underground, squid that swim, um, guys that come down from the ceiling on ropes, um/

And many more!

DON"T YOU GIVE ME THAT LOOK

In all serious though there isn't exactly a whole lot you can do in the format besides "things that move around and possibly shoot." The only room to change things is where they can/can't move around, and how they shoot. I think I have done a good job (again probably moreso now than in the demo) of keeping up a lively diversity of enemy types.

Impossible, without revamping the entire engine and probably slowing the game down several times.
