Message from the Management

When you finish a new game, demo, engine, or utility, the first thing to do is submit it to the archive for approval. (Log in first, then Upload a New Game from the sidebar.) Then feel free to post about it in this forum; in fact, please continue to do this. This is so people will actually know about your game and play it. As nice as it is to have archive uploads automated, it's not going to help much if no one knows you have a new game to play.

When uploading your games to the archive, please zip up your game using the .ZIP format, even if it is just a .MZX file. As for less popular formats (such as RAR and 7Z), games uploaded in these formats will be rejected. This is because as wonderful as those compression algorithms might be, ZIP is a near universal compression standard, and the only one that will work with the in-game archive browser planned for MZX.

You can also attach your game to a new thread in this forum. In this case, you can use whatever compression format you find suitable. NOTE: Games posted this way won't be put into the archive unless submitted to the archive proper, or unless the author states he/she wants the game in.

Lastly, we suggest you post a suitable screenshot of your submission (in PNG format) along with the game.

It's been years since I last created for MegaZeux. This game is just me relearning the ropes. Basic stuff, built-in enemies, the works. It should still play just fine, though it's nothing too amazing or complex. I'll try to do better next episode (although I think I already demo cursed myself).

Tell me what you think once it shows up in the archives.

graveyard level is a pain
reloading to see if I can avoid losing like half my health on it

EDIT: finished

Final boss was more monotonous than difficult, although that could have been attributed to my strategy of only using the lightning wand for it. I found that even on speed 2 it was fairly trivial to avoid the attacks so that was a good way of getting mana replenished

anyway, nice work. Main complaint is that I've heard all the music before

That's weird, I can't find an edit post button anywhere.

Anyway, just released Episode 2 (take that, Eggplant Adventure and Honor Quest 2). It's in the vault waiting for approval.

It's nothing too complex. Actually, I think this episode can be considered as some kind of fan fiction...

Oh, it works that way. Swell, there goes editing the topic's subtitle.

If someone can edit the topic subtitle and blank it (thus making this the JGadv general thread), that would be neatsome.

SPOILERS (whole post is a spoiler. too many to use the tag)

This game was pretty fun and great, if really long-winded. That is, until I got to the Kikan part. That just confused the crap out of me and I gave up and played the rest from the editor. Anyway good job! I think most of the text was generally in the tone of the covered games and added something new (which is important since dialogue is 80% of the experience). But you made me realize once again why I sorta hate Honor Quest.

Also heads up. I probably appreciate BONK gags twice as much as the next person, but I don't think it goes well adjacent to Es humor. They're very different things with subtle nuances. I enjoyed both parts of that section of the game but was sort of put off by the melding of them there. I ain't a Internet Judge of What Is Funny and Isn't on the Internet, but there!

"Why don't you come over and say that to my face, huh tough guy? Boink!"
Need a dispenser here.

Engine, actually. And its confusion isn't my problem, that's exactly how it originally was (except there's only one quest item and the boss must be defeated this time).

I went and replayed a bunch of your games a few weeks ago. Forgot how fun they were to play through. You should make some more.

I'm gonna hopefully start development on an XNA J-adventure game soon.

Yeah, your old games are still fun despite the silly plots and stuff (and having just finished the Kikan remake, I can see now that there won't be much of those silly stuff anymore).

Spoiler

Can't seem to bring myself to finish FF Edventure, though. Lousy instant death desert with no prior warning...

...and speaking of silly plots and stuff, I seriously gotta muster the courage to replay MagAdv again. Can't make the next episode without doing so... but oh my god that story and that dialogue and those not-mine characters and not-mine graphics and not-mine music and ffffffffffffffffffffffff

I finally did it.

I played Magician's Adventure all the way through. It was... gut-wrenching, though it's probably all just me. At least the gameplay's still sound, although it gets stupid hard at times.

Anyway, I'm all set to work on Episode 3...

Question about this part:

Posted Image

Is there a way to get the mana orb without abusing ice beam repeatedly? (something very hard to pull off even on speed 9)

EDIT: Actually, I vaguely recall something to do with the Susarra Heights being unlocked later. Been years since I played this game.

Nope, that orb's actually really truly unreachable as some kind of sick joke... unless you know about the Ice Beam Boost.

It's much easier with the new J.G.'s ice wand

Not to mention the risk of stepping on or (worse) being forced onto lava and instantly dying. Time to do it all over again!

And that final boss's name makes no sense. What was I thinking when I thought that up?

There will be changes and by the time I'm done, it should be possible to speedrun the game without saving and the stupid names and lines will be diminished.

That's a neatsome final score, by the way. Ahh, the old days when people still cared about score...

Deadlines themselves don't seem to be the problem. The problem is that when you set a deadline, you're either overenthusiastic about the project or have improperly gauged the amount of effort it would take to complete it (likely due to your overenthusiasm). When you take this for granted and then blow all of your interest in a project by working on nothing but that project for an extended period of time, that enthusiasm quickly turns to disdain and boredom. I'm sure you've heard it a million times, really. :)

By working on a project, I mean living and breathing with nothing but it, like what I'd do during the summer and when I was in school. This is why Oizys never got finished. I'm just stating what I've noticed in myself and a few other people...

Hey, is RT still going to be released in Spring 2007?
