This is a new journal thread for this game. There was a old one, but it was the entire series, and it wasn't a very good message. So now on I will use this journal thread for the Part II game. Part III will use its own thread, if there ever is a Part III.

Features of this game include:
  • Dark engine (in some levels)
  • Platform game (in some levels)
  • Cheat codes and sound test
  • Bonus scoring
  • High score
  • Buy/sell items at the store
  • Built-in help
  • Dotbang metadata
  • Save anywhere
  • Push Z to clear the message line
  • Some levels have limited number of player bullets to appear at once
  • Player appearance select, either always the face, or select a counter such as "Health", "Ammo", etc and make it display the number 0 to 9 if you have 0 to 99 of that, or the face if you have 100 or more
  • Find the magic keycards, go in the areas you access with the keycards to find the purple keys, go through the final cave, and then you will find BIG_MONSTER

Here is some of the things you can find in this game:
  • Talking spiders
  • Talking trees
  • The piano with some keys missing
  • The Spanish Inquisition
  • The *sick* forest
  • Complicated puzzles
  • Web-based puzzle
  • Star Trek convention
  • MEDIUM_SIZE_MONSTER
  • The fire factory, ice factory, and water factory
  • A copy of this game on VHS
  • An imaginary but isomorphic game

And some screenshots:

So, do you have question/comment, please? I will post more here as I do it.

All I can say is this is going great zzo38, Make sure to put a few great but fair challanges in, it's good so far!

And lucky I've played the original, with great justice and I have to try on this one after release!

It might take another year before it is finished, but thanks for the advice.

If you have played the original, will you post a review?

This game looks really quirky and fun, and I can't be alone in thinking that. The ANSI art looks nice, too.

Wait, what the hell is the point of that, actually

Good question. The point of that is in case you want to see when you are low health, low ammunition, or a torch light will run out soon. (There is also one other use of this feature that you can figure out if you play this game)

I meant, what's the point of choosing a face to show up when you have 100 of something? Can't you just extend the status bar you're using to display 3 characters or something.

Also, about the first screenshot, using 1-char-wide vertical walls seems somewhat ugly, try placing two of them together, like so:

That's purely aesthetic, though

For one thing, there is no status bar. For another thing, there is actually another reason for doing what it does, which you might figure out if you play the game. Also, I think some versions of Angband do a similar thing. And this feature can be turned off at any time. If you do not like this feature, do not use this feature!

It simply will use up more space on the board if they are thick walls (I mean this in general, not only specific to this board).

Honestly, your board looks like it could spare a few chars horizontally to make the walls wider with no ill effects to gameplay...
