Well, I was completely out of ideas for music for levels 6 and 8, so I took the color tags off of them. I have some ideas for the last four levels, so I'll do those instead.

Does anybody know how the amoeba/missile launcher timing works? I have a hunch but I'm not totally sure.

I've been feeling a lot better since my drugs finally arrived. I might binge on MZX and try to get the programming part of this game finished over the weekend. This is really taking a lot longer to make than it should, for one primary reason: procrastination

Long story short, that never happened. I'll get around to finishing it some day, but I need help! Yes, the soundtrack! I just completed the track for level 48, hopefully it's motivational and everybody will make music for my game after listening to it http://kuroneko.spec.../music/ZX_48.it I broke one of my own guidelines and made a cover of a Caverns track but it's a really good cover!!!

Implementing missiles... this is more complicated than I expected, builders keep thinking they're walls & asst. atrocities like things blowing up that shouldn't. Need to replay Labrynth soon.

Also, the built-in guide in the game says that Blood Amoebas spit acid, but I've never seen this happen. Is this a mechanic that Alexis never implemented but forgot to remove from the guide?

Another track finished. I lengthily extended the Soundtrack section with a description of how to create tracks for this game, if that makes anybody more willing to help. :x

Edit: Amoebas are working, now, and pretty accurately to their DOS counterparts. Except, when they fill a screen these use all of my Pentium 4's CPU in 32 bit Windows :(

The list of things I need to do is getting short. Working on the ending sequence and credits at the moment, though I can't do much with them until I've recorded the ending music.

Uh, I don't know why I'm still up or why I have this weird thing just lying around...
But here are all the samples converted into instruments for .IT use... I didn't do ANYTHING special with any of them, just packaged them for ease of use. Maybe I'll try and jam out a track tomorrow. I dunno.

Dunno if that's helpful in any way or even if someone has already done it, just thought I should post it if I had it and couldn't find you on irc.

EDIT:
Holy hell it was the first thing in the music part of your first post... Damn I'm slow.

Cool. The sample pack IAmGreaser compiled (the one in the post with the video and in the first post) only has 97 of the samples, I think. I'll check that pack out when I get a chance.

Anybody can make a track, if they want to! Though I might edit it if there are very bad things about it like missed note cuts or unintentional dissonance, these samples seem to be pretty good at handling dissonance though (I use Gm add b9 chords in one of the songs and it doesn't sound awful! and the original CV_TITLE used Ab maj7 chords).

Anybody want a pizza roll? Make music for my game and I'll email you a pizza roll

The soundtrack's nearly half done, so I can almost definitely guess that Labyrinth of Zeux may not be released in 2012.

I'm sorry, but i don't have any confidence in my music making skills, or at least not for this project. Gotta practice a bit more with Modplug... -.-

Well, even if you don't have confidence, you can try to make something and contact me on IRC. At the very least, I might reject it, but will try to give you as many helpful tips as I can. CJA, gm|lap (IAmGreaser), and Kom (I've never heard any of his music but CJA told me) are other people you could probably go to for help (I probably missed some but that's because they're hardly ever on). If you have an iffy piece but I see potential in it, I may tweak volume and envelope on some instruments, with your permission (I did this with one of ThdPro's tracks).

Speaking of CJA, he should make some music for my game so it gets released before Hanukkah 2013

Well, I could give it a try. Just like when I tried to make something with Fruity Loops 9, and ended up pretty well.
* Downloads the sample pack *...

Edit: oh, but before i do something, is there some kind of 'theme' per level? (Since i've never actually got past the first level )

Looks like the glitch where you can push a box two spaces away from the edge of a conveyor was in the original Labrynth as well, so I'm not going to bother fixing it. There's also a bug in the original where it would take an extra point of bonus away from the player when counting bonus points for bombs and keys.

Noah: which levels u want to do? :pirate:

Also, the first 11 levels technically are finished, soundtrack-wise, though I asked IAmGreaser to replace my boring crowley intro cover for level 5 with something original (haven't gotten any word back on that, he's probably busy with Real Life)

Just like to mention that level 5 was done soon after it was requested, and that I've given Lachesis the link over IRC or something like that (I gave it earlier but apparently it didn't get through).

I suspect that gm-lv02.it might need a bit of tweaking; say, an intro (it sounds a tad too "in-your-face" the way it starts), but TBQH I probably won't tweak it myself (it's still a pretty cool piece IMHO).

This tool might come in handy for a final render. Just don't screw over the source files, because that's just not cool (it butchers the file structure very severely and removes any messages / sample text). Also if we're uploading a .7z, the IT214/IT215 compression might not be particularly great (but for .zip it works wonders AFAIK). Usage: python2 munch.py sourcefile.it destfile.it

Actually, I think every track before level 6 is basically perfect the way it is. I added the new level 5 music when I got home today. I downloaded your script, but I might not end up using it unless the total game size goes over ~10MB (it's at a little over 5MB right now but it's missing half of a soundtrack). Size isn't a major problem with the music for this game, as all but five tracks and a bonus OGG are under 100kB.

Have some level 26 music.

Yes, it's for that short yet horrible level inappropriately classified as short 'n' "sweet".

Hahaha, yeah, I hate that level. Good job

I went ahead and marked 25 as in-progress because I've been tossing around some ideas for that. Though it seems to have become one of my like, 12 unfinished zeux tracks

Missile Launchers run on a random timer, which can lead to a lot of player frustration when they fire off just as the player needs to pass by one. Would making them blink a couple of times a few cycles before shooting be a decent gameplay mechanic to avoid that (especially for people who are trying to beat the game or a particular level without using saves)?

edit: Finished implementing SFX. Level 31 sounds just as terrible as it did in the original. I might have the explosion sound effect mute itself after a few cycles of constant repetition.

I'm starting to run out of ways to procrastinate about this, so I made an extended version of one of the level themes and changed the missile launchers so they 1) wouldn't kill you if you stood by them unless they were trying to shoot a missile, making level 16 possible to beat without restoring saves 1000 times, and 2) blink three times before shooting a missile, giving the player a short chance to get out of there, making 1/4 of the levels possible to beat without restoring saves 1000 times.

edit: oh, and I changed one of the transitions on the new title screen. I still need to record a video of that I guess

Hi scores implemented

edit: okay, I fixed the two bugs in the screenshot right after I posted it, but anyway. I decided to go with my own score format since probably nobody's going to care about compatibility with that (I think the only difference is the number of bytes in the name and in the gems columns anyway). There's also a file with anonymous per-level high scores that also keeps track of which levels you've beaten sequentially. If you haven't beaten a level, none of the high scores for any level after it can be saved, and neither can overall high scores. You also can't see the ending unless you've beaten every level :( how sad. You don't have to beat them all in one playthrough. Did anybody release any level packs in Zeux besides the 50 original levels?

I've always wondered, is "Caverns of Demnos" a typo?
