This is probably the least-likely anime that any couple has as "their" series. We started watching it right as we started dating, we both ate Haagen-Dazs Strawberry ice cream because of this show, and even had our first kiss at the end of the last episode.

We just watched the third ep. today, and I realized this show is kind of the most gory harem anime, well, second to Elfen Lied. But I like KNK a LOT better. I forgot that there are a lot of similar things in both, though.

I dunno, just throwing this out there.

I'm really excited for the fairy episode and the creepy apartment complex episode. That is all.

Kara no Kyoukai is great stuff- and yeah, 5 and 6 are my favourite eps too, especially 5.

Still waiting for the DDD anime. Until then, Hoshizora Meteor's Girl's Work should be enough as far as TYPE-MOON-related material goes.

I dropped this series after the third chapter or so. Pretty awful. :(

Haven't watched the new anime stuff (just the original series) but I read the manga, it's good stuff.. I think I like the art most of all, which is not something I tend to place emphasis on for manga but it's just really good. Too bad it comes out so infrequently..

Aww, well that's okay ^_^ We've started watching Gungrave now too! He's seen it, I haven't. It's pretty cool so far! Interested to see where it goes.

Ah, yeah, Gungrave is one both of us actually like. We saw that and talked about while it was airing.

I saw the first movie from the new adaptation a while back... way too much CGI for me to like it as much as the old series, but I wouldn't mind watching more, I suppose. I want to motivate myself to read the manga one of these days.

Gungrave is fun. I liked the ending, at least...sort of.

Exo and I came to the point where we accepted our differences of opinion and appreciated our similarities awhile ago, as it comes to anime. I don't think there were any anime that he liked and I hated (which is not to say there are no anime I think are absolute trash, see Elfen Lied), we had our share of stuff that we both really liked (like Trigun and Gungrave), and stuff that I loved and he hated (Noir comes to mind, FLCL, obviously KnK).

Thinking about it, I love Kara no Kyoukai for a lot of the same reasons I love Noir. Both have lots of black and gray morality and drawn out philosophical ruminations, taking an introspective look and the mind and motivations of killers; LOTS of ambiance in the cinematography, with tons of scenery porn and sweeping scores by Yuki Kajiura; and endings that are bittersweet, but ultimately uplifting and full of redemption (perhaps debatable in Noir's case, if you ascribe to the fan theory that Mirielle and Kirika are shot and killed at the very end). Oh yeah, and chicks with knives. That's the real reason.

Come to think of it, Gungrave hits a lot of those points too. It does it's ambiance differently of course, with the more dissonant stylings of Tsuneo Imahori, but it definitely paid a lot of attention to style in that area, and used its art direction to great effect to make a limited budget go a long way. Episode 14, the turning point in the show, is a masterpiece, and a great example of this, creating an incredibly tense atmosphere with very little dialogue.

Anyway, I'm mostly just happy I married someone who is so excited and invested in my hobbies. Among many, many other wonderful things. I love you baby.

I loved Elfen Lied, but it would have been better as an eroge than as an anime. The main problem was that the best parts of the series were severely compressed and padded with a lot of stuff that appeals to violence porn fanatics but nobody else.

Anyway my favourite series is probably 'ef'. I typically point to it as a good example of how to do an adaptation (and Yosuga no Sora as a good example of how NOT to do an adaptation.)

Yeah, I say not, basically because those guys at the end were mooks and mooks would never be able to fire two bullets and kill both of them. We'd have heard automatic weapon fire if that was the case.

For some of the downright goofy stuff in Noir, it sure took itself awfully seriously. Not that I didn't like the show, but maybe it should have been called Chloe's Wacky Hour

For the people who mentioned Elfen Lied, are any of you reading Gokukoku no Brynhildr? It reuses a lot of the same themes and concepts but I like it a lot more so far.

I'm reading it now =P not that I'm really getting Elfen Lied vibes from it but I'm only a few chapters in. I'm definitely enjoying it though.

I didn't get Elfen Lied vibes from it at first either, but after finding out it was done by the same mangaka it started becoming more apparent later on. To me Elfen Lied felt like a good core premise with a bunch of dumb harem elements and useless/awful characters plastered on; this feels like a good core premise with harem elements that are sensibly executed enough that it doesn't feel unnatural, and characters that are actually useful, sensible, fleshed out, interesting, and likeable.

Despite all of that I did still find it at least mildly entertaining (not for the constant gore and nudity, although I probably found that more amusing than gripping or offensive). I am reading the EL manga now to get a better feeling for a comparison (and since it has more story than the anime)
