So, while mucking around, I remembered an old game that I actually finished long ago, but never saved. I was about 14 at the time, and it was a simple game. All you had to do was to collect 30 coins in a level and you'd get to move on to the next. It was all based on an archeologist treasure hunt and... it was bad, really bad. Yeah, the things you do when you're not an adult yet. The levels were pretty random and I never really tested the difficulty of it all. And your reward for going through all 25 levels? Jokes you could print out.
Anyway, I was thinking of reviving it, but making it much better than before obviously. Though I'm not sure where to begin. I was wondering if I should go back to the one-screen level format or make it a roaming adventure like the Megazeux series. What do you guys think?

Hmm, going back to recreate a game that you made when you were less experienced can be a great experience. I mean you have the benefit of more experience and skill, plus having made the game previously, you know what pitfalls to avoid to make it a better experience. Go for it!
A clean classic design always seems to be a winner. It's easier to focus on what's important (good gameplay, good story) when you keep it simple. And there is no better way to keep it simple than making it look like an older megazeux or even ZZT game.
An original design is always favorable, so I definitely wouldn't do a roaming adventure (like the zeux series) unless it fit into what the game needs to be.
These are just things I've been thinking lately, especially after playing Forrester by Inmate2993. That game reminds me a lot of the Super ZZT games, it's really well done. There are other games that I've played that are simple, elegant, clean, simple, & classic like that. It's been years since I've played them so I can't think of what their names are just now.
I guess what I'm saying is, maybe don't change the game too much, just find the fun, engaging, gamey potential of the original design and clean it up and take out the muck.
Out of curiosity, are you going to post that game so others can check it out? I like playing games people made when they were younger, made in the earlier days of megazeux. Even if they're bad. Or, are you gonna maybe include it as an Easter egg in in the redesigned version? That would be cool to.

Currently working on Servo for MegaZeux, I hope to complete it by the middle of 2015? Who knows...

Sadly, the game is gone along with the old computer. I wish I kept it as well, it would've been interesting to show. Oh well.

Oh I hate it when I lose a game. Too bad.
