Where did everyone (who has one) come up with the nickname they use in the Mzx community?

Here's how I got mine:
The very first game I played in Megazeux (yes, before Caverns) was Crystal Cities. I noticed the author of the game called himself ZzFreak... which I thought was cool, since I was a big fan of Zzt. During this time I went by my real name in the Zzt community, but I wanted a nickname too. The second game I played was Crook... which for a newbie game... I actually liked. I put the two together... Zz, and Crook... hence the name... ZzCrook.

How'd you get yours?

Now, I bet everyone has always wondered what the root of my name was. :p Yeah, I took MegaZeux, and changed "Zeux" to "Zeus". At the time, I thought it was clever, but I think I might be due for a name change. How about "Blasterman" or "Dr. Doom"? :P

Namingway: Would you like to change your name?

Hm... I don't know of anyone who is named after a character in one of their games, but I don't know if that's such a bad idea. Maybe I could be Matthias, or better yet one of the bad guys!

Mine comes from way back. I suppose it came from Top Gun first, I used to have this fascination with the Air Force(Had a cousin in the Air Force Thunderbirds). And then I started using it as a callsign in videogames, like in Wing Commander II on the SNES.

I was told by someone (i forget who) that a "wild weasel" was a sort of radar jamming device. I used it in a Half-Life clan that is now dead (the Idiots with Guns). So, WildWeasel forever. (Until I get something else that will strike fear into the hearts of MZXers everywhere...maybe Blue Buckaroo? Nah.)

For the first time I played ZZT when I got from a Ruffian for the first time I said "gosh" then I knew it sounds Yosh as in
Yoshi so I put the I on the
end of Gosh and that's how I got Goshi.

No it doesn't.  The o in Yoshi is a long vowel, while the one in gosh is a short vowel.

I dont know where I got mine from but it was from austnet as well. Like typing /nick Telephone was used to be my nick on austnet since october of 1999. And then when I went to AOL, i signed up for my nick but of course Telephone was taken and i decided to stick with TTelephone.

As for my other old nicks like "xurethax" that eventually appeared from the random name generator more than two years ago. i changed it because too many people were mocking it.

In RoboPit there's a tiny robot called Teke-Teke that runs around really fast and is more like a pest than a robot righter :D

My first callsign was Sonic... mostly because I was still deeply into Sonic The Hedgehog games. I came up with it for my games of Doom 2 and Descent across the modem with one of my friends. Eventually, I knew Sonic just didn't sound cool enough, so while playing MegaMan 3 I said the name of the one 'bot in my head, "Gemini Man"... Gemini sounded real cool so I chose it for my my callsign, and it's been that way for the past eight years.

Although here's a funny coincidence... about a year later I learned what my horoscope was... Sagitarius... the OPPOSITE of Gemini! So in this book I read the details about the characteristics of the two... the Sagitarius description was completely off but the Gemini description was dead-on accurate about me... even if it was just general babble. So I guess you could say I am my opposite, my twin :)

Bah, and yet after all that, I still keep it just because it sounds cool. I add 000 or OOO when I can't use just straight Gemini... and if even THOSE are taken up I change it to 2x-Gemini.

--- Kris Asick (Gemini)
"Oh yeah... and Gemini Man in MM3 has a really kick-ass laser beam... and I like lasers :)"

My current nick, Diamond, is derived from the saying "Diamonds are a girl's best friend." A bit full of myself, perhaps ^^ I got Daimaou from Endril, who told me it meant "Great Demon Lord", which was a rather fitting nick for the time. The rest were just various nicks I thought either sounded cool or had cool meanings.

2993 was the first availiable slot in geocities' timessquare block when I move in.  As a bad joke, I figured I'd be the resident inmate in cell 2993.  It was actually yenrab who told me that I picked out a cool nickname, so I stuck to it.

I was playing quake over the modem with one of my nephews one day about four years ago.  My friend told me I should change my name to Charging Elephant, but it wouldn't fit, so we picked Moose instead.  I don't use a space because when I went to pick the name on Battle.net, it didn't allow spaces to be typed.  I've just thought it sounded cool ever since.

RPing. I wanted to make a Jurian character, and the name Kain came to mind, both cause of an ff4 character and from tenchi.

Well I didnt like it. I made it Ka`in so i didnt need to change my name on AOL (considering how ' couldnt be in it so i had an excuse) ... Well I said 'fuck it' to that and just said it was Kayin, and be done with it, cause it looked nicer, was pronouced easier then Ka`in, and was also a real Irish name. The Nasaki, which you see on IRC came when I wrote my first novel. I didn't want to use Masaki, cause of tenchi, so I changed it to Nasaki.

So I went from KainMasaki to Kayin Nasaki.

The character, while the same person, is radically different then when I first played him. He's alot more like me then a royal family badass person.^_^ More like a short, frail looking modest and wise badass. But what ever

Complex why to get a nick, eh?

Oh and I picked duo has my avatar because the hair style is almost like mine and kayin's. Short in the front with a ponytail or braid.

Well, my nick is simple enough.  I originally used my real name, Joel.  That just didn't sound cool enough for a screen name.  I then switched around my name and got Jelo, add an L, and substitute a 3 and a 0.  J3ll0.
