Hey I've got an idea! What if you were able to own multible ships? And mabye store them at diffent starpoints across the galaxy so that when you need a fast transport you'd fly one ship and when you need to blow somebody up you'd pick another. The only way that you could possibly do this is with the FWRITE stuff. I don't know just an idea.

Waaaaay back, well before I came to dmzx, that was the origional plan, the game wasn't supost to have any plot, no planets to explore. Just hard core fighting fun. I planed the player to have about 12 ships at his disposal to tackle various enemys. However as the course of the game shifted to from a stratigic combat simulator to a space exploration game, it became inpractical to field multiple ships. To combat this I greatly upscaled the upgrades section for your ship. So if you want a fast ship, buy the best engines. if you want an all out slug fest, mount the biggest lasers/missiles/cannons. If your looking to mine for profit, fill your ship up with cargo pods and landers.

In additon eliminationg multiple player chassis gave me a large amount of board space to play with, that ment I could convert the enemy damage display to custom blocks (from robots) which saved like 10 k of robot mem, which allowed me to add in everything from critical hits to shield arcs. (also it just about doubled the playable area in combat.)

And I don't know what calen's talking about! I swear there were no demos! he's full of it! :disturbed:

I'd like to point out again, the first post on a page still doesn't open the next page up, so we can't see it untill a second post is made on that page

hit a snag at starport, it likes to randomly sell your ships components.
Almost have this one figured out.

Thats definitely not a good thing kenohki. What if it sells your engine and you're stuck here! Glad you're fixing it tho.

yeah actualy it likes to sell your engines more than anything.

I'll just rig this together. Restart the Outfit bot when the board is entered. Hopefully that will fix it.

I can not wait. This'll blow away the MZX world. There'll be a huge MZX Magazine exclusive on it. You'll get massive popularity and a cult of followers, and you'll meet Greg Janson and Tom Sweeney and rule the world and then the galaxy and then the universe and-and-and-and...

LOL, wondered how long it'd take to post here.

I've been a little busy so progress has been slow the last 2 weeks. I move out to a new apartment on august 11th, so thats been taking my time.

I've not neglected it though, I've patched up that problem with starport selling your engines.

Ok, back in action, got a lot of work done last week, just got DSL back yesterday. Expect some sweet updates in the next week.

Also, the computer got a sweet upgrade;

2.26ghz, 512 ram (fsb400) geforce4 ti 4400 and an 8x AGP slot on the mother board for the new cards :)

Well I wasn't gonna, but I did.

The refresh "problem" on the system boards & combat boards (this is in refrence to your ship blinking as it moved) Has been corrected. To many people buged me saying it was visualy distracting, I tried to keep it under the guise that it offered some relitive speed gauge when no other objects were present, but with the added engine trails AND orbital paths, it's not selling any more. Any who, The changes as it turns out further optimized the code giving me a little more space for graphical flairs.

A little more work on this and you can count it done, then a little streamlining of the combat engine and were set.

I give this masterpiece about a week or two before release, just on a hunch. If I'm right I will then spend all my money on the lottery.

This is going to be sweet.

Come on kenohki, some recent screen shots? PLEASE!?

Trust me, it'll be more than 2 weeks, hopefully were talking 6-8 weeks for the demo. When that demo does come out, it will be like another 6-8 weeks till the full game is released.
(again still no definate answer on release date, little things keep poping up, but we're almost there.)

I'll see what I can do about some screen shots, however they've not changed much since the last screen shots so I might hold off a little.

A little off topic, but not much, this is a package which contains a game called "Stars!" which is very cool, basically a conquer the universe package. No planetary exploration, it more focuses on technology. It is VERY fun. You play a race of people, which is one of the below or a customized one you create yourself:

Human (Humanoids) -
Jack of all trades is the major advantage applied to it. Very neutral medium race with not many extremes about it. 3rd best colonizers

1 in 2 planets will be habitable

Robots (Silicanoids) -
There major advantage is hyper expansion. It costs near to nothing to colonize, and they are immune to the effects of gravity, temperature, and radiation, making any planet colonizable thats not already colonized. This is actually a hard race to do because of this. To make up for their colonization of any planets, things cost about 6x as much, and its REALLY hard caring for 18 planets when there are literally barrages of enemies coming in every year.

All planets will be habitable to this race.

Rabbits (Rabbitoids) -
Experts at doubling their population, and speedy interstellar travel. They also start with two decked out planets. A nice race to start with.

1 in 9 planets will be habitable to these fuzzy bunnies.

Worms (Nucleotoids) -
Experts at stealth who have virtually all planets available to them. A few planets may be out of their temperature range, which is the only thing they aren't immune to.

0.99 in 1 planets will be habitable to these people

Insects (Insectoids) -
War Mongers whose engines break down twice as fast as normal ones. Not worthy of your time unless you fancy large battles.
They are the third best colonizers.

1 in 3 planets are habitable to these ppl.

Mysterious Aliens (Antetherals) -
Least good at colonization, but great at stealing minerals from planets that aren't theirs.

1 in 12 planets are habitable to these ppl.

Check it out, Kenohki, and others interested in this kind of game.
Life out.

Some balance updates, fixed the refresh thing a little more, looks really good now. I still have to apply it to the combat screen, that shouldn't take too long.

Also, I'm going to put the new font on all of the character sets, what's the best utility to yank out those letters and drop them into the other sets?

Hey that wasn't so bad, I lost sound though >.<

Important thing is I can still work on it, I guess I'll figure that sound out soon though, it's probably because of the new mother board.

Ok, once again,
The project started a little over 3 years ago. I estimate I am some where in the vicinty of 90% complete. It is still a matter of months before the final game will be released.

As soon as I stop finding little unimportant things to change in the game the demo will be out.
