Okay, first off sorry for the lack of updates, I slacked on the project over the last week or so but I'm back in action now.

I've got my self thinking again, I really botched up the PE screen, gonna take a few hours of work to get it running again..

Now while I was messing every thing up, I managed to change some things. Most notibly is the planet lander no longer has a robot cruising around in the buffer, the robot is stationary, and fakes it's existance with counters and overlays. (this made it a little faster and cleaned some stuff up).

Now, hot spots still piss me off.
I am gonna try to change them again. Rather than have them generated in the buffer, they will be generated on the player view screen. (using the counters for detection). I wanted to do it this way at first, but the screen scrolls with the lander so it was a pain. however now I am thinking I can pull it off, if I can, hot spots will be like they were in SC2, where something of a arc of fire will trace around the screen and wreak havoc on your lander if they collide. (right now its stationary jets of flame shoot out of the ground without warning.)

Whatever, hope this works, :\

Maybe its cause the thread was started when that bug existed.
Starting a new thread might fix it , ya never know.

So I was installing Mechwarrior 4 Mercs that came out the other day. Got as far as 65% complete when the installation was interupted by a significant cloud of smoke comming from my hard drive.

more to come. :ninja1:

Okay, here is the deal.

Old hard drive is shot, I managed to pull a few files off of it, but when it came to SFmzx it was no good.
I have lost everything megazeux, save for 3 charactersets and a sam file (all of which aren't even part of SFmzx.)

Yes, this sucks. Yes, I did lose EVERYTHING. And yes, There will still be SFmzx

Over the last 9 months (after initial problems with the hard drive) SFmzx has been backed up 7 times on 5 different computers. However the most recent update is about 2-3 months old :ninja1: and it's gonna be tricky to get.

If I cannot get that copy of it, I have already succeded in getting an older (~5 month old) back up. I will hold out for the newer one still.

All of the back ups are in various states of disrepair, so this will definatly add some serious time till the release of the game.

BUT REJOYCE! FOR DESPITE THESE SET BACKS I WILL STILL WORK ON THE GAME!

Okay, got my hands on the most promising back up so far, the game was dated 8-1-02 so about 3 months ago, there is a more recent one that I will still look for, in the mean time this Journal will prove MOST valueble because I can go back to that date and see exactly where the hell I was at :ninja1:.

do you have a readwrite cd drive? If not you should just use a few floppy disks to backup your game. I used to have problems with my hard drive, as some of you might remember, so I finally resorted to saving my game on 2 or 3 floppy disks.

P.S. I lost one game in a hard-drive crash, now you know why I'm obsessed with back-ups.

Well heres what it looks like,

I will scrap most of the neat stuff that was lost in the HD crash, here is a list of things I AM going to fix from my current backup (subject to change without notice)

(mind you this list was twice as long before tonight)
  • Stars in system are all jacked
  • re establish the fuel cost to land on a planet
  • Encounter detector needs lots of work (for hyper space)
  • The component sale bug is back in full effect (sells your engines just for fun) gotta re-fix this
  • The new font I made has to be reapplyed to all the character sets
  • I might add the in system orbital paths back, they really did make the board look and preform better

Thats it for now, I'm sure there are like 10,000 other things that will creep up on me though.

hahaha I sat here playing SFmzx for 3 hours, thats pretty damn long considering I only have 2 planets accessible and 1 enemy ship type to fight :ninja1: I'll stress it again, the game may be a bitch to learn, but once you get a good understanding of it it's very addicting.

And now, BALANCE CHANGES!!! WOOO!!
(this is my favorite part)

*Cannons now take 50% longer to charge, (they are shooting to fast and over shadowing the shorter ranged harder hitting lasers)
*Cashback values, when you buy a new component for your ship, you can sell it back at 80% it's initial value (minus repair costs if you damaged it) this went up from only 66% This is a big one, because now you get more money back when you upgrade from say a class 2 laser to a class 3 laser. (I might even raise it to 90%)
*Hot charging the shields: A player may in sticky situation turn off his shields and recieve energy to his ship equal to the amount of shielding discharged (the more shield points you had the more energy you would get.) as it turns out, it gives you too much energy, so I'm gonna lower it by about 50%
*Escape push: as is you can run from a fight by pressing "Q" twice, when you do this your ship stops moving and you cannot fire. You remain vulnerable for a short period of time untill you warp out of combat (this process gulps down several units of fuel). I think you warp out to fast, so I am increasing the vulnerablitly time by 300% :baaa:
* Combat salvage: If you are victorious in combat, you get free reign of all the scrap metal and junk from the defeated ship. I have roughly trippled the amount of salvage you get from wrecked ships (now you can pirate :fart: )

I'm sure I'll find more numbers to mess with shortly...
