Is the game universe predefined by you? Or is it randomly generated?

Oops, sorry.

The universe is pre defined. the way every thing is set up, making it random ( location of stars and arangement of planets on the stars) would be QUITE easy to do. However planets would have to be premade still.

The main reason it is predefined rather than random is mainly the locations of story elements. Hate for the plot to be ripped to shreads because the last boss was in the first star you visted :p

I usually dislike using the default palette because the colours often clash together. Often I draw the chars and give them a foreground and background colour... then open up the palette editor and slowly adjust the colours until I get the mix I think looks best.

Well, moved and settled in now, I spent most of last night converting the game BACK to MZX3.1 after I acidently saved it in 2.69 a few weeks ago. I found my list of things to do as well.. hopefully I can have the changes squared away in a few days.

To summarize the 7 lost posts: Lots of work was done, good progress. Also a few more peoeple asked to be testers. As soon as I remember what I did over the last 5-7 days I'll post it here. My thanks to the admin's who got DMZX back up. You guys kick ass.

Working on the operations board at the moment. I might split it onto a few boards depending on how much text I want it to hold.. 1 might not be enough, eh whatever. I made another alien race for fun. looks pretty cool.

Also, I need a name for the player's character.. still don't have one after all this time. :p

Why don't you make it so the player can choose their name? I'd imagine that'd be pretty easy to do with strings and all.

Actualy I would love to do that, I personaly think naming the player my self is far more difficult than setting up strings and letting the player chose. The main reason I still want a fixed name for the player though, is because should there be a sequel I want the names to be consistant, and also, I don't have access to all the neat string functions in 2.69b :p


OK! and now, for the THIRD time some one has a chance to grab the 400th post in this topic and the bragging rights that go along with it..

He probably likes sticking with the mzx version he uses the most or he wants his game compatable with all version of mzxs31 and up. I use 2.68 and it has enough stuff for me to make the games I like.

The main reason I'm not using 2.69b is because if I DID change, I would have to take full advantage of all the new features avalible to me. That translates to adding another year or 2 onto the release date. :p

Also I hear there is trouble regarding swap worlds in 2.69b, SFMZX swaps worlds every time you enter a star system, go to H-space, enter combat, enter comunications and each time you land on a planet. So that would cause all sorts of other problems.

That many swap worlds? How does that work? Doesn't that result in a 'restart' of each world every time you transfer? You'd need *massive* amounts of counters to store any meaningful amount of progress, unless you've really really engineered things in such a fashion that... hmmm... I see ~_^

Any particular reason that you went this route, though?

Lots of progress done over the last two days. I have it set up so that in combat, pressing a key will toggle the enemy's damage display between the standard one, and one with more detailed info, but with out the ship picture. Also, Missile weapons once again use damage transfer, where say if you hit a part of a ship that has 6 HP, and do 20 damage, some damage will carry over to another sector. Basicly it's one half of the damage not delt in the inital attack. Note that this only applys to missile weapons, lasers cannons and all that other good stuff do not transfer damage. Also I made consideribly more progress on the star map screen, it's pretty much finnished now.

Lots of time off work coming up starting tuesday, this will be most aprciated since I've not had a day off of work for the last 9 weeks (yep 7-days a week, some half days)

This means more free time to work on SFmzx, and less money to pay those damn billz.

It finaly happend, I finaly got pissed off enough with warcraft to STOP playing it, and get back to work on SFmzx.

After about 2 hours or relearning my code, I actualy WORKED on the game...

Fixed the grey box on the communication screen
Fixed the sound effects for the communication screen
Fixed several problems with the starmap screen
Fixed some of the graphics on the planet exp. screen
Fixed some of the graphics on the starport screen

Aso I threw together some crap that may eventualy take the form of a title screen, hope that works out.

Probably lots more work tomorrow.
