Okay, so when I fire the machine gun in my game it plays a sound effect, of course. But the problem is that when the sound plays, and then the sound plays again, it cuts off the other one, instead of overlapping it. Also, I can't hear the shells hit until the gun sounds stop.

Is that just the way sounds in Megazeux work, or is there something I can do to fix that?

What version are you using? Did previous versions have this problem for you? You posted in the wrong forum section.

I don't have the problem at all. But you could try messing with the audio settings in config.txt

I am using 2.81c. I looked at the config.txt but I don't understand it. Is there a setting where I can get more sounds to play at once?

Try switching to 281e. I don't know if it will fix it but you'll need 281e to play any new games. I've never had this problem before, so maybe it's to do with the sound effects you're using?

Yeah I had this issue once it does involve config.txt

Try these:
audio_sample_rate = 44100
audio_buffer = 4096
enable_oversampling = 0
resample_mode = linear
modplug_resample_mode = cubic

(AKA 2.81d's default audio settings)

MegaZeux is terrible at handling sound. None of my requests for improvements have come into effect.

Pretty much every single request for the sound handling would require changing the Robotic code for the sam command, etc. I don't think that's going to happen in the v2.X series.
