ff3 is really good game though... even if you can take the plot and throw it in a bin.

i'm playing shin megami tensei: strange journey.

...i don't like the music. and i think the music might be making it hard for me to enjoy the game. music is important to me...

Persona 4, the PS2 one not Golden, since I cannot afford a Vita... and don't really have any plans on owning one. ... I'll confess I haven't actually played it 'till now, the Persona 5 announcement is the whole reason why I jumped into it.

Also got XCOM2 as a birthday present. It isn't too different from the Enemy Unknown. It does feel a little barebones compared to Enemy Within and the Long War, but I suppose that is to be expected since the game hasn't had any expansions or major mods released for it yet. Gameplay wise it isn't too terribly different from enemy Unknown, so it is kinda hard to recommend it for those who have played it since its essentially the same game.

... And yet it is a direct sequel to Enemy Unknown so I can't recommend to newcomers either =/

FF3 has the worst early game. The game gets way better once you hit midgame though since you'll have all the forced mini dungeons out of the way (There is one more but its so short and easy it doesn't matter). Endgame is a bit of a pain too but I'm one of those people that keeps getting their ass handed by stupid Ahriman and his stupid Meteor and end up doing the whole dungeon over again. Its no wonder they toned him down so much in the DS remake.

Yes I mean those horrible things. But I especially hate that Giant Rat boss.

Why the hell does a Giant Rat have Fire2

I actually didn't have any issues with the second forced mini dungeon after I switched my fighters to Red Mages. Still pretty dumb though. Just left the Floating Continent

Okay, so I played some of TIS-100. First of all, I understand that Zach was going for a certain aesthetic, and he nailed it, but it's very monotonous and boring to deal with. It's really hard to see what's going on every step, I really would have appreciated more animation with the step-by-step debugging. Maybe that isn't a valid complaint, but this IS a game. I mean, I don't think I'm going to put my experience with TIS-100 on my resume.

As for the gimmick, I'm just not versed enough at programming to be able to appreciate it. I end up just doing everything physically in as many tiles as possible. I just don't want to wrap my mind around JRO ANY anytime soon.

I think I tried playing FF3 after I played those games and it was really hard for me to embrace the static job system.

If I ever get back to this I'll probably just play the DS version.

I prefer the original Famicom FF3 to the DS remake - it was a bit more challenging due to the fact that enemy parties weren't limited to 3 or 4, and the DS remake does this one thing where every time you switch jobs, you are 'weak' and have to grind a bunch of fights before you unlock their full potential, while the original Famicom version has something where leveling up jobs only means it requires less "CP" (which is gained by killing monsters) to switch back into them. Plus I never particularly cared for the SD style popular in the DS FF games.

I found the DS version to be harder personally, but mainly because the bosses are much more of a threat. In the Famicom version, all you needed to beat most bosses was the right combination of jobs and gear and you're set to steamroll them, and a lot of them aren't really much of a threat. Except Ahriman. He sucks. DS version though, Cerberus is absolutely ridiculous if you're not using a Bard. Its pretty much luck based unless you're overleveled (Or using a Bard).

Star Ocean 3, and Disgaea 4. Also, I need to finish Xenoblade Chronicles X, I've gotten fairly far into it.

Cave Story. It reminds me of a time (10 years ago) when indie games felt special. Cave Story felt especially special to me because one person put everything together. Pixel was, like, my childhood game development hero.

Also, Pocket Card Jockey. It's really funny in a sort of weird Nintendo-filtered way. If you told me that someone's kid came up with the plot and directed the writing, I wouldn't be surprised in the least.

Been using Danganronpa (Vita) to cope with my breakup. Fucking awesome mashup of 999, Phoenix Wright, and Persona, though there are a couple parts where the pacing slows a tad.

Also got an email a few days ago that my Star Ocean 5 limited edition has shipped! Can't wait!!!

CJA - my brother really seems to like Pocket Card Jockey. I'm into the horses but haven't tried it yet.

7th Dragon III VFD is coming out soon (Officially anyway), but I decided to get Persona Q instead. Now that I've finished P4 the game should make sense to me... I think. So I'll probably sink my time into that.

Finished Mystic Ark. It didn't really take me that long to finish it, I just stopped playing it for a while. I quite liked it, although repetitive early Enix RPG battles are starting to get a little dull. Not sure what I'll play next.

SO5's reviewing terribly but it doesn't seem like all that bad a game so far. I'm only about 6 hours in though. I've certainly played much worse games though.

started 7th Dragon (the DS ver).

unused to an RPG kicking my ass this much. went out and got my newly formed party utterly wrecked by random monsters, went back into town and realised i didn't even have enough money to stay at the inn. =P

See, Star Ocean is kind of a weird mixed bag for me. I liked the first one and the third, couldn't get on with the second due to the terrible voice acting, and the fourth bored me to tears. If it's more like 3 than 4 I'll be happy.

Also, I've been playing a lot of really old stuff lately. Some Jazz Jackrabbit, Tyrian, One Must Fall 2097... For modern stuff I've been playing Furi, which is amazing. And I suck at it.

i don't think i'll have a Blue Mage for that fight (playing for the Four Job Fiesta). i won't have four Berserkers like the guy who took that screenshot though : (

edit: also, I'll be playing with this patch applied which allegedly fixes the sound effects

Just beat SUPERHOT and Hyper Light Drifter.

SUPERHOT had amazing gameplay and wonderful stylized visuals, but its story was almost painfully dumb.

Hyper Light Drifter had a great combat system and atmosphere, though sliding along walls and ledges to find secret passages is weird.

Yeah, I guess that's true. And also, it does work as a generic final boss theme that could fit into pretty much anything whereas other FF final boss themes are too iconic to be used properly on anyone who aren't Kefka or Sephiroth.

I di sa gr ee

that really applies to a lot of (masaharu) iwata's other FFT battle tracks though, they're all fantastic and none of them have the game's leitmotifs
