This topic's been on my back burner of things to complain about for a while, but it just came up again and I'd like some input.
Windows XP (yeah, I'm living in the dark ages blah blah blah) hides the file extensions of .CNF files for me, no matter what I do in Folder Options, and always labels them with "SpeedDial". I don't like this. Does this happen in Vista or Windows 7 too? Does this annoy anybody else? I hate having files around like that. It's no hassle to save it as something else in Notepad++, but I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it hate it hate it. Anyway, the conclusion of this is, should the joystick configuration file extension be changed to/allowed to be an extension that Windows XP doesn't rule with an iron fist and a black swastika?

Nope.

My position: leave the file extension as it is, let people sort out their own OSs. Or use the commandline. Or whatever.

<Malwyn> Yes, yes. Don't worry I'd rather masturbate with broken glass than ask you for help again. :(

You can force Windows Explorer to show all extensions by editing the registry. Find the name "NeverShowExt" and rename it to something else (such as "NeverShowExt1") and then it will be ignored and will show the extension. This must be done for every file type that you want it to stop hiding the extension.
Also, file extensions are always shown when using the command prompt.
