I dunno about "FF knockoff" regarding the Duky games where combat was MZX shootan instead of turn-based JRPG style (final bosses notwithstanding). I don't recall any point where I fought monsters in a FF game by shooting them in action sequences. I guess what I'm saying is that Engine is as much a FF knockoff as Smiley RPG is an RPG.

Also, Blade of Islan remake pls. With JRPG combat and no relation to the World of Mana series (AFAIK, the original had nothing at all to do with the Seiken Densetsu that it has in its title).

The idea behind SDBoI being named 'Seiken Densetsu' was, to my understanding, because the game itself was a DENSETSU about a SEIKEN, rather than having anything to do with the Seiken Densetsu series.
Or whatever.

<Malwyn> Yes, yes. Don't worry I'd rather masturbate with broken glass than ask you for help again. :(

The BUREIDO NO ISURAN isn't all it's hyped up to be. I wish the game let me use the shooting wand for the entire game, it's an infinitely better weapon.

Then again, I also wish the game was less buggy. Using "justloaded" in the global robot to reset important vars? Really?

Hey, jerk hole, welcome to half a year ago, please find your seat et cetera et cetera. As it turns out, when two games are part of the same series, they tend to be thematically similar. While the second installment of the BAND! series of video games is an obvious outlier (and the least successful entry), you will recognize that the rest are all platformers. Why is that? Well, clearly, you would say, all I ever do is reproduce the same game over and over again. After all, having played every game I've ever made, you are absolutely qualified to make that assessment and you wouldn't be disregarding anything. But you'd be wrong, and you'd display a profound lack of insight or elementary reasoning in so doing, and I will point out all of the things you've failed to consider here:

1. This is a series of video games. In a series, the installments tend to be thematically similar. This is because the usual reason for producing a sequel to a production is that the original was popular; continuing to play off of those merits is only natural.
2. This plays to the producers' abilities and desires. Did you ever consider that, perhaps, I feel that platformers are my strong suit, or that I enjoy making that particular style of video game?
3. No two entries in this series can even be considered similar enough to be "the same." Every installment so far has introduced multiple new gameplay elements and refined the existing standard to a more playable, enjoyable state.

Finally, there's something about pots calling kettles names, mister every-game-I've-ever-produced-is-a-painfully-wapanese-Final-Fantasy-knockoff. Not to mention that you've even REMADE your own games several times, which is a lot closer to outright duplication of an entry than I've ever gone and done.

75% © nice wording, needs more elaboration

Haha, looks like you got owned by the other people in this thread without me even needing to respond to you. I've made traditional turn-based RPGs, action games, inventory/puzzle games, even a bit of a sidescroller. Not sure if you count Kikan as a remake (I don't, as it's an entirely separate game which has nothing to do with the original), but the only game I've remade was the original Engine, which was 8 or so years old when I went through to remake it.

I know you've been on this power-trip since you consider yourself an expert in the Japanese language (is it to pick up Japanese women, I wonder?), but you really need to calm down and stop jumping at and attacking everybody who offers constructive criticism of your games, while you offer nothing but harsh and mean-spirited attacks on other people's games. I know you're young and probably going through that whole 'awkward teenager' phase, we've all been there, and most of us eventually grow out of it... but for now you should learn to control your temper.

There's also Defenders of Oasis for Game Gear and Arabian Nights for SFC. It's a shame that with 9/11 there probably won't be any more Arabic themed games any time soon.

You should both actually play each others' games, because it's clear neither of you have, despite trying to argue about them. djtiesto just baited an argument with a question that could have easily been answered by playing BAND! 4 (the answer's "yes"). Guy did his usual long condescending snappy post thing, and, I mean, that's what you were baiting for. Besides, if you wanted to really prove a point you would have looked at the half of his games that are pretty much the same format as emF 1.

Anyway, me myself, the problem is that I can't even get one game out that explores a certain concept I've had, before I come up with a second concept. This means that I have pretty much no sequels to anything, and when I do have something like Flantasia, the plot's all messed up and the games are entirely different.

Holy beans though I thought the big old red bad grade at the end there would be enough to establish precisely how serious I'm not being, or maybe the other more subtle hints like actually calling someone a "jerk hole," but I'm not going to use the "haha did you take me seriously" staple internet defense, I'd just like to point it out. But I will take a moment here to be entirely serious as I point out precisely how silly you are.

See, you're really silly. Like, sheesh. Like, I think you're super funny, and that's why I like to egg you on. I don't know if you can count that as mean-spirited or harsh; I'd only go so far as to call it annoying.

Also, I'd like to take a second to ponder your language. Do you actually describe

Quote

Is it just me, or does Guy seem to basically make the same game over and over again?

as "constructive criticism?" Where, precisely, does this criticism construct? It isn't like you said, "Judging by the three or four screenshots of your games I have seen, you seem to create a lot of very thematically similar games." Actually, that wouldn't be constructive criticism either, it would be more like a comment. I don't know. I just think that if I'm guilty of being entirely unconstructive in my criticisms, you are as well.

Now let's refer to your criticisms of my person! No, I don't actually consider myself an "expert on the Japanese language." I certainly speak it much better than all but maybe one person here, but that's like saying that, compared to someone with no legs, the incredibly fat guy is an expert at running.

Lastly, I wanted to let this one just slide with the "(i'm gay)" comment, but I see an opportunity to be preachy and you know I'd never miss one of those. Did you never even see my avatar, first of all? I mean, like, sheesh. Jeez. Second of all, why would you assume the reason I speak Japanese is something as shallow as hooking up with Japanese women? I assure you it's much, much shallower than that. But I'm more interested in the fact that you went ahead and assumed I was straight. Why would you do that? I actually think that's offensive, that you would be so much a puppet of our heteronormative culture that you would, without any prior knowledge and even in the face of evidence to the contrary, go ahead and assume I was heterosexual. You've made an ass of U and me, pal, but mostly U!

also point out where other people "owned" me exactly because the only person I belong to is the love of my life and future husband CJA.

I like how Drelick's response was defending himself and making implications about you based on a part of your post that Lancer-X already pointed out had no merit i.e. missing the overall point of the post

Did anybody mention that Guy is gay yet, today? He's like, totally gay. He's gayer than Gayville, & proud of it
