So uh... Yea, I have been building Mics, my brother an I have been working up a prototype-able product and that's almost finished. They are Ribbon Mics and are in all reality, really easy to make. However, getting them to sound good on things is a different story. I've miked Guitar amps with the first beta-mic and have only ever gotten AMAZING results.

These are the relatively simple guts of the beta-mic.

first non-machine made ribbon motor, the results were good, but not good enough. The fact that it's made out of CDs and copper wire didn't help.

That looks pretty neat. How much did it cost to get all of the parts/put it together?

The first one was about 75 bucks total, but that was wood...

I'd honestly rather not say how much the CnCed one was/is. (It's not finished.)

They'd ideally sell for 200, so we'll see how that goes.

It kind of started as a hobby, but with the actual prototyping and testing, it became realistic to sell them, so we might go that route after some long hard thinking about advertising and investments.

Edit: not sell the wooden ones, the plastic ones, molds are expensive though.

I post an A-B once I get around to yanking some tracks from stuff already recorded. I've already done quite a bit of professional recording with the beta mic and it has yielded excellent results.

All I'm waiting on now for the real prototype is tinytinytinytinyTINY hex nuts to finish building the ribbon motor. Once that's done, I'd like to do the A-B with the actual product.

Dammit this is what happens when you DON'T use epoxy to bond powerful bloody magnets pulling against eachother from 3mm away.

EDIT: there should be a metallic corrugated ribbon in the middle.
