I noticed that on the platform matrix it is listed as not using SDL. Maybe this works better or something, but there is a very fast, full port of libSDL to Android that you may want to look into.

The OpenTyrian port uses it, and it works fairly well, even on my really really slow chinese tablet.

<@Tixus> Anyway, I set the year to 1988 for some reason.
<@Tixus> And set the microwave to run for a minute and 28 seconds.
<@Tixus> But it failed to send me back in time, and I was disappointed.
<Insidious> Tixus accidentally microwaved the 80s
<Insidious> that is my takeaway from this

could you explain how this is better than the EGL renderer? preferably with some data to back it up

obviously it could be made available as an alternate render target..

<Malwyn> Yes, yes. Don't worry I'd rather masturbate with broken glass than ask you for help again. :(

Good link anyway. This might be useful code to read, to figure out how to finish off audio in the Android port.

Lancer: OpenTyrian uses EGL piggybacked onto SDL, so its apparently doable. If we can pull off EGL-by-itself, thats cool, but at the same time I have to use software rendering to get OpenTyrian to run playably on my tablet which has 3D hardware but not very good 3D hardware. So anticipating similar problems with MZX, yes, I would appreciate a software alternative, personally.

In general, I mostly just wanted to propose this as a potential solution to the Android port's blockers. That is, packaging (Apparently the android LibSDL port also contains scripts to aid in making market-safe APKs) and audio, and because I was curious as to why this wasn't looked at from the beginning.

What 3D hardware is it? Will stretch blits in GL also be slow (effectively all MZX's opengl1 renderer does)?

I'm reluctant to pull in something as big as SDL when all we'd really need it for was software scaling..
