I have noticed that there are programs on my computer that download stuff onto my computer and I have no idea where they came from.

I have tried manually going through and deleting them but it tells me access is denied and that I can't delete them.

If anyone knows how I can get rid of them I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, search on Google for Spybot Search & Destroy.

Spyware == bad.

i would like to meet the guy who invented spyware and castrate him with a scythe.

edit: oh yeah, i forgot. yeah, adaware is a good anti-spyware utility.

It's not StopGuard, is it? StopGuard is some evil, evil adware. I can tell you how to get rid of it if it's that (AdAware and Spybot, as far as I know, will not suffice for this one.)

If access is denied, that meant eh program is running while you are trying to delete it.

yeah, you need adaware. now some idiots think THAT'S spyware so they get pest patrol.... weirdos.

I have Spybot, but it doesn't seem to get rid of everything so I am downloading AdAware right now.

Esdemo, I did a search for StopGuard on my computer and it came up with nothing so unless it is named something else or is well hidden I don't think I have it.

Yeah I have things like that, Isopht, and when you press Ctrl+Alt+Del the little tasks manager thing comes up showing all the programs that are running. Sometimes, when the internet explorer won't open, I just press those three magic keys and close the program (sometimes it's hard to though!). And then sometimes there's a few programs, and the most annoying one is this one that calls itself "Bargains". When I close that, my computer opens stuff fast. When it's running, nothing seems to open. And then when I close it and open another window, program, whatever, it starts running again...it's so annyoing...but sorry, I can't really help you except to say that you should reboot your hard drive before it's too late. I've seen many bad things in my day, and some of which would not go away regardless of what kind of adware killer I used. heh.

I had that bargains thing, and you are right it is annoying. It hasn't bothered me since I've been back on after running AdAware, though, which is nice.

Thank you guys for telling me about AdAware, it found a lot of stuff on my computer and it got rid of most of it.

It wouldn't be half as bad if the people making malware had half a clue how to program. Instead, the malware fucks stuff up, thanks to stupid, faulty coding.

Really? I always thought that those dorks did that on purpose.
I have ZoneAlarm and AdAware. I'm quite happy with both.

Yeah don't they work well? I'm rather impressed, Adaware's actually a real adware killer that isn't some big spyware scheme. I can't believe I fell for "spyware nuker" one time. It was a spyware nuker alright, it nuked my computer with spyware!

I have AdAware, Spybot (With it's resident Reg protector on), ZoneAlarm and AVG and am also happy! Also, is there any Linux spy/adware?

avg doesn't like me =(
i go and apply for a serial multiple times. then, when they don't send one, i go onto my friendly neighbourhood crack site and get a serial since they didn't send me the one they said they would. then, on my computer it crashes and uninstalls. on john's computer, it starts complaining about the serial and shuts down.
i used to love grisoft, but now i hate them =(
