Are all these keyboard shortcuts documented in the help file? Clicking a mouse is obviously more intuitive, expecting people to "just know" shortcuts is completely unreasonable.

Uh, they're the shortcuts listed in the palette menu.

They're documented ON THE SCREEN, you used to be able to click the actual hotkey label to make it happen, you can't anymore, so people will have to press a key instead of using the mouse.

I'd really, really, rly like for mzx to export the screenshots it takes as PNGs instead of BMPs. Someone's probably asked this before but I'm not reading through all that.

Guy, pick up Irfanview and it won't really matter because conversion takes all of 5 seconds!

I can see why you'd want such a thing but including libpng doesn't come without a price:

$ ls -l libpng-stripped.a
-rw-r--r-- 1 Exophase Administ 186584 Jan 2 06:28 libpng-stripped.a

It's just not worth it. Maybe as a compile option?

Some sort of counter tracking thingy that dumps the values of all the counters accessed in the last test session (and/or from savegames) into a text file.
Purpose: Invaluable debugging tool for projects that produce huge amounts of counters, in my case tens of thousands. =( Should be at least marginaly useful for less counter intensive projects.
If possible counters could be exported in the format of "set countername countervalue" to the text file so they could be easily imported back into mzx.

The ability to use decimal numbers in counters would also be awesome.

Guy; that would take a lot of work.

You know, it's rather entertaining how a lot of MZXers complain about no mouse support in the editor; it makes me realize, I've NEVER used the mouse to edit anything. Strange.

Write your own floating-point system! Use two counters, one for numbers to the left of the decimal and one for numbers to the right!

Yeah, abuse the fact that we have 32-bit integers. Depending on how large your numbers will get, you can have fairly precise divisions/multiplications by inflating your counters by factors of ten. Your planned numbers only go from -2000 thru 2000? Why, that's accuracy allowed up to six decimal places.

I'm not doing this for MZX in general. If you're that desperate about it talk to me about making an unofficial build for it or something (since something that just dumps it to a file after testing is pretty easy, since the state of counters is retained, as far as I can recall)

I am very interested ^^ And yeah I suspected it would not be too difficult, and if it was just for me I would strongly prefer if they could be dumped in like I mentioned
Set "countername" "countervalue" so I can turn around and stick them back in a robot.

When dealing with overly long lines of code in the editor, one thing
that might be useful is the ability to move to a specified column number
as well as line number. That is, the "Goto line number" prompt
available after pressing Ctrl-G could be extended to take an optional
column number.

If there's any interest, I have a (somewhat experimental) patch against
2.81c to implement this, using a few minor bits of nano's code. It's
available at:

mzx281clinecol-patch.txt

The patch looks good to me, I'm attempting to build mzx with it right now to make sure. Technically I actually have commit access and could put it right into the source, but I'll leave that kind of decision up to Exophase!

Edit: Gah, why can't I find a precompiled devpak of libvorbis? I have to build libogg and libvorbis myself, now, and libvorbis keeps messing up.
Edit2: Ok, so like, what the hell. I don't remember libvorbis being this hard to build ever before. It keeps complaining that libogg.la has moved.
Edit3: Screw this, I'll try to compile libvorbis sometime when it's not 1am and I don't have homework to be doing >:(

The diff works, and seems to withstand mild fault testing. Whether or not the coding style and/or interface is/are desirable is something other people can decide =p

Commiting patches to the CVS won't do anything but give ajs a headache, I don't use it personally, I release from a local copy.

Now, about this patch... I'm going to be really honest about this, if that's okay (and in no way do I mean any of this to be taken personally). Even though MZX is an open source project it's never really worked on the basis of accepting patches, aside from between devs (well, that basically means I accept a lot of patches from ajs, most of them aren't code related though). That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your patch, in that it works, but I think it's something we both could have done in a minute at the most. I'm not sure if I would go with that style of implementation or if I would do a dialog window instead with two number inputs though.

The thing is, robo_ed.cpp is one of the modules I wrote completely from scratch (that's why only my name is in the copyright) because Greg Janson outright lost the source, and while I KNOW this is very selfish I'm somewhat uneasy about someone else's name being in the copyright because they added a few line patch that I could have done very easily if asked beforehand. Obviously you meant to help and if anything not get in my way and I do very much appreciate that. I also despise ternary (it's nowhere in the code, accept maybe in ajs's module, fsafeopen) and I think the upper bound against 10000 isn't necessary (the lower bound against 0 might not be either) and represents a slight misunderstanding as to how intake operates. I can see where you got that impression though.

So I'm not really sure what I should do... Accept the patch verbatim so as not to be insulting, rewrite the functionality myself but still include the copyright, do that w/o the copyright, or go with the other method of implementation (which looks cleaner but probably saves the user nothing)

Comments? :(

just have a section somewhere where you mention individual contributors? you could just list people who have contributed code or suggested features that you've implemented in there. just a thought.
about the column jumping: i personally probably wouldn't use it (i use ctrl+dir) but i can definitely see its purpose.

Okay. I wasn't sure how to go about it.

Perfectly understandable. I only put the second copyright notice in because of the adaptation from one of nano's functions, and because I'm a bit paranoid about legal issues. I maintain nano 1.3.x, where the code is from, and I'm the copyright holder of that particular function in nano. I could certainly let you use it under public domain terms (if you're interested in using any of it, that is), so you wouldn't need to have the second notice.

Obviously you meant to help and if anything not get in my way and I do very much appreciate that.

Thank you.

Okay. I tried to match the style of the surrounding code, but I apparently missed that.

Do whatever you want to do. I'm more interested in the functionality than the implementation; I just thought I'd save you time if you were interested in adding the feature. Given the ternary/0/10000 problems you mentioned above, it'd probably be better if you wrote your own version of it anyway. I won't be insulted in the slightest.

Okay then, I'll go add it. So you're a maintainer of Nano??? That's pretty impressive actually! I've used Nano occasionally for a few years now.. of course the ctrl + g influence here is obvious...

Which would you guys rather have?

The original style:

Dialog box:

Note that the dialog box style includes bounds for the current number of lines. It also preloads the numbers with the current line/column, I can change that though (perhaps have it remember the last one??)

You can type numbers in the numerical input boxes too, in case you didn't know (give it a try, backspace too)
