We actually owe alot to akwende his two mzx releases.

Mzx Akwende 1.0 was the first mzx to include the super mzx graphical hack, the first with built in trig functions and a whole host of extra features that although not used much anymore were very very sought after at the time.

There was buzz that Akwende was working on a newer version with file access and many more features that everyone wanted in mzx. However a fight arose about Akwende's releases as he didn't include the GPL and didn't want to release his work under the GPL. Which technically was illegal because mzx had been GPL'd since 2.51. Long story short, he vowed to NEVER release mzx Akwende 2.0 (Gold).

Everyone gave up hope ever seeing a new mzx, but then I came around and picked up where Akwende left off. Basicly I really wanted the functionality promised by akwende, and if he wasn't going to do it, then I was. I was very gung-ho and ambitious in taking this on because I didn't program in C very well nor was I very verbose in the internal workings of mzx, nevertheless I worked on 2.6 with help from exophase and others in #mzx at the time.

At some point I ran into Akwende on Aim and Exo and I thought it'd be funny to act like a huge fan and see how akwende responded, he was typical akwende and gave me pointers about success and such (lol). Long story short, I came out with the fact that I was releasing 2.6 soon to quash his mzx ak gold curse he left on the community, and he flipped out and before the week was over he released mzx akwende gold version as I was putting the finishing touches on 2.6.

Everyone eventually came clean with what happened, and since akwende still refused to include his releases on the GPL his version was thrown out in favor of 2.6 which offered the same functionality with a fraction of the confiscation. (mzx akwende gold actually required that you set a the counter 'mzxakwende', or something, to 1 in order to use the new features)

Work began on a bugfix shortly after with 2.61 helped even more than before by exophase, and then exophase more or less took over by 2.62 with development.

So I guess we owe alot to Akwende and his misadventures even if he was a total ass :)
