Crystal Cities
Crystal Cities is my first game; enjoy it; blah blah blah; I don't want to write anything 'cause I just want to upload it and get it over with; send any comments to kodos@mail.hvs.com; visit my web page at http://www.hvs.com/users/alpaca/index.htm. It's unlocked; steal any robots you want; just give me credit as everything but the side-scroller (and most of it is, anyway) is mine. Don't bother stealing the game, as there's plenty of better ones. Same goes for the MOD; and I can't imagine why you'd want the .CHR files. Have fun. Thanks again to GJ, for making MZX, MZX Encyclopedia, and Weirdness, which all helped me.

It's a story about a game that should have never have happened. The game's graphics were basic, the music ranged from annoying to whatever, and the humor was either "imaginitively" violent, ZZFreak vs. main char, or Llama related. A nice waste of time

Crystal Cities is a borderline unplayable adventure game. There are some interesting concepts like the system for combining items, but none of it is implemented very well.
The descriptive text and dialog are also hit or miss. Some parts are pretty good, but it could have done better without the 4th wall breakage.
At one point you have to use the laser on the toxic waste barrel, but instead of standing next to it like with most items, you have to be standing at least a space away from it or nothing will happen. Also there is a boss battle where you get 100 ammo, but because the boss has an unindicated invincibility period, it's very easy to run out of ammo and get stuck permanently.
The graphics are mostly pretty bad, but there are a few nice tile edits.
There's some original music, some of which is pretty good! I think at least one of the songs here was good enough it got reused in other games.
So every aspect of this game is a mixture of good ideas and mediocrity. Just enough good for 2 stars.
