Nice. The graphics were well done old school style zzt-ness. The music excellent. The story, though, had to be the best part. Puts the rest of the communities over-complex projects to shame.

A perfect example of how you can take a little, and make a whole lot. The plot was very well-written and original, the music was very fitting, and it brought back a style of gameplay not seen in quite a while. Loved it.

Remember Super ZZT? Y'know, the sequel to ZZT that's not as popular? Well, here's a game that's made in its style. And it's an excellent one.

Forrester is a man in search of his daughter. He finds himself in Wayward, kicking off a surreal adventure about memories. It's quite a plot, even though the gameplay is actually just typical ZZT fare. As Forrester, you explore areas, shoot monsters, solve puzzles, and interact with a small cast of characters as you slowly uncover the secrets of Wayward.

The whole game is of high quality, not surprising considering who made it. The gameplay is great, the story is interesting, and the retro graphics and sound give the entire thing a unique identity. If you like ZZT, you'll like Forrester as well.

A great surprise from the inmate - indeed kind of a "sleeper hit," as Terryn suggested, which grabbed everybody's attention all of a sudden with its retro cuteness, inmate's reputation, and bendy storyline that seemed to draw parallels to what we're doing in an "MZX community" in the first place. (Even after Cans, it seems, inmate's still the man for community commentary - just with fewer toilets this time.)

Like Honor Quest, Forrester is one of those "story-driven" games, less about its shoot-the-bears action than its deranged cast and wonderful setting that turns reminiscence on its head, and shows a darker side of nostalgia. You'll play Forrester, a man whose search for his missing daughter takes him to the land of Wayward, a realm of weird science and threatening dream physics that unravel the world around him.

Forrester is done up nicely in chiptunes and the currently-popular ZZT-retro-graphics, probably the most legitimate use of the style so far - the whole "nostalgia" theme wouldn't work the same any other way. I guess babbling about legitimacy in a freaking MegaZeux game review is pretty pretentious, so I'll short-circut here. Just go give Forrester a spin and enjoy. It's cute and poignant and weird.
